Another tragedy has befallen another reality TV show on location in Argentina. Reportedly, two people have died following a helicopter accident involved in the filming of MTV's reality show The Challenge: The Rivals III. If you haven't seen it and want an idea of what the series is about, here's a short trailer for the previous season:
The crash tragically took place near the Potrerillos Dam in Mendoza, costing the lives of the pilot and a technician. According to MTV representatives, the helicopter was en route to a filming location for the 28th season of the show and no cast members were on board.
The network issued the following statement:
The thoughts and prayers of all at MTV and Bunim/Murray are with those who lost their lives in this tragedy and their families during this difficult time.
Currently, all we know is that divers are struggling to salvage the bodies from the wreckage that lies at a depth of 60m under water.
This is the second deadly helicopter crash this year
Although more information and the names of the victims have yet to be released, there has been outrage over why this tragedy occurred in the first place. Mainly because this wasn't the first time – in fact, this is the second deadly Bell 206 helicopter crash linked to a reality TV show in Argentina this year.
Last March, three French sports personalities were amongst 10 killed when two helicopters collided in the north-western Rioja province of Argentina. Alongside five French nationals and two Argentine pilots, yachtswoman Florence Arthaud, Olympic swimmer Camille Muffat and Olympic boxer Alexis Vastine lost their lives in the horrific accident while filming survival show Dropped.
Our condolences go out to the families of those lost in the helicopter crash.
