Reviews for Star Wars: Battlefront have been mixed at best. Surprisingly though, critics have actually been kinder to DICE's multiplayer shooter than users have. Reviewers have communally awarded Battlefront with scores in and around 70, but hop on over to the user sections of Metacritic and you'll see a different picture altogether. 4.9 on PS4, 4.3 on XBOX One, and 3.4 on PC. Ouch.
Having read various user reviews, it's clear that gamers can agree on one point: [Star Wars: Battlefront](tag:2684021) is lacking in content. To many this game feels like a lacking shooter, one that fails to deliver enough to warrant its price tag. Many have looked at the season pass (which costs an additional $60) and blamed EA for locking the game's best content into future DLC expansions. While DICE have fought this idea from the beginning, we can't help but wonder what EA have in store for Star Wars: Battlefront.
What To Expect From Star Wars: Battlefront's DLC Expansions
This is a stunningly beautiful game. The visuals and sound design are some of the best you're likely to come across. But after a few hours with Battlefront, the game looses its grip on you. A lack of interesting modes (or a campaign) have hurt the title's reception amongst the Star Wars fanbase. We wanted more from this title, and you can't help but compare it with the amount of content that Star Wars: Battlefront II has.
So, can EA and DICE's DLC expansions save Star Wars: Battlefront? Will this become a must-buy when the Premium version containing all DLC packs is released in the future? Let's ponder on what's to come.
New Maps & Modes
Star Wars: Battlefront has already received its first piece of DLC: The Battle of Jakku. I actually really enjoy this new map and the new mode called "Turning Point". It's well balanced, features some intense action, and leaves so many options open to players in terms of approach. But future DLC packs are going to need a lot more than what Jakku has on offer.
Here's everything that has been confirmed with the Season pass: 4 expansion packs, 20 new items that include weapons, vehicles, and Star Cards, 4 new heroes and villains, 16 maps in new locations, 4 additional game modes, "Shoot first" emote and two week early access to all expansion packs. So we have 16 new locations and 4 new modes to look forward to. Question is, can they rival the likes of Walker Assault?
Heroes & Villains From The Force Awakens?
Are DICE going to venture beyond the original trilogy? Are they going to bring in The Clone Wars? Personally, we think the new heroes and villains mentioned above will be from [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](tag:711158). This would explain why we haven't heard about future DLC expansions. Perhaps they're waiting until the film is released so that nothing is spoiled (can't believe it comes out this week!!!!).
Do you think we'll get Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren in future Star Wars: Battlefront DLC packs?
This is what we all really want to know: will DICE actually announce space battles as DLC? I can see people get pretty livid if they're included later on, rather than having had them feature in the original package. In saying that, I'd still love to see space battles in Star Wars: Battlefront. If II could do it, then this massive AAA title certainly should.
But what about you guys? Do you think DICE will include space battles and characters from The Force Awakens? Let us know in the comments below!
