The 1980s were a great time for children's cartoons. Many of the offerings at the time became well established childhood legends. Cartoons like Transformers, which now has multiple movies and a loyal fan base, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which has been remade and is now about to launch its second movie.
This was the dawn of many legendary cartoons and in the top spot would be Thundercats! Every child loved The Thundercats and it has continued to grow in popularity, which in today's cut throat market is tough, and has spawned a range of merchandise. Everything from clothing, to accessories (earrings, necklaces etc.) to toiletries and even fancy dress costumes of the characters!
And as with every icon, there have been rumors of a live action film remake for years now. Rumors even got as far as to say that James McAvoy was to play the role of Lion-O – a rumor which the star dismissed, stating it would never happen.
However, if a live action remake of this movie were to happen, who should play the roles of the Thundercats?
Here is my selection for the Thundercats!
I would put the iconic role of Lion-O in the hands of Eddie Redmayne. As an Oscar-winning actor his talent is endless and having portrayed amazing characters such as Stephen Hawking, Eddie Redmayne has shown that he is capable of portraying legendary characters. I feel he would do the role of Lion-O justice!
I would put the role of Tygra into Liam Hemsworth's capable hands. In the movie saga of The Hunger Games, Liam Hemsworth's character is very wise, knowledgeable and dependable. He offers advice and gives support when necessary which is the same style that Tygra adopts with Lion-O. Lion-O often turns to Tygra for advice and I believe that Liam Hemswoth could do the character justice, without outshining the main character.
My choice for Panthro would be Ving Rhames. Panthro's character is quite dominant and very clever at the same time. He is a great inventor but is also a fierce warrior. I feel Ving Rhames would not only suit the role of Panthro but I think he would excel in the role and make Panthro even more popular! His role as Luther Stickell in the Mission Impossible movies exhibits all the characteristics that Panthro has. I feel he was almost born for the part of Panthro.
I feel that Emma Stone would be an excellent choice for Cheetara. Cheetara is the only adult female member of the Thundercats and is therefore quite defensive in nature. However, she is also kind and understanding which is a trait that Emma Stone exhibits in her acting. From the tenacious Gwen Stacy in the Amazing Spiderman 1 and 2, to her hardened role of Krista in Zombieland, she is a very adaptable (and adorable) actress who I feel would bring the character of Cheetara to life!
For the role of WilyKit I would chose Mackenzie Foy. Her acting in the Twilight movies and in Interstellar was phenomenal and I think she has the right amount of curiosity in her acting that would help bring the character of WilyKit to life.
For the role of WilyKat I would chose Thomas Sangster for the role. Thomas Sangster is best known currently for his role on the epic Game Of Thrones, however he has done serious acting before such as in Love Actually. His young looks would be specifically useful in this role, given that WilyKat is still quite young in the series. I feel he would make a good team with Mackenzie Foy and that together they would bring the characters to life.
As for Snarf, the 'pet' of the Thundercats, I feel he would be well done with C.G.I. With legendary creatures being brought to life using C.G.I. in many films, I feel that this would be the best way to represent Snarf. Creatures like Dobby from the Harry Potter series, werewolves in Twilight, Dragons in The Hobbit trilogy and Game of Thrones and so on so, I feel that no actor could convey the cat-like abilities as much as C.G.I rendition could!
However, what do you, the fans, think? Should we get a movie of Thundercats? Would you go see it if they did? Do you know of any other actors/actresses that would suit the roles? Let me know in the comments section below. Until next time folks, Ciao!
Do you think Thundercats should be remade?
