The original Martyrs was one of the most striking horror movies ever made... can the 2016 remake achieve the same level of unsettling terror? Check out the trailer for the new Martyrs!

From the trailer, it's clear that the nihilistic crux of the original 2008 French-Canadian movie is being made more obvious.

There's certainly less mystery...

Even Mademoiselle is revealed!

Martyrs 2016 stars True Blood's Adilyn Bellefleur and Pretty Little Liars's Troian Bellisario in a remake which sticks pretty closely to the story of the original:

“Ten-year-old Lucie flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from Anna, a girl her own age. Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that tortured her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare – if they cannot escape, a martyr’s fate awaits them…”

Martyrs is released January 22 in selected theaters, coming to DVD, Blu-Ray and VOD shortly afterwards on February 2.
