What would happen if you crossed our favorite super cute Pocket Monsters with the combative prowess of Bandai Namco's Tekken franchise? Pokkén Tournament is what.
The spiritual successor to the N64's seminal Pokémon Stadium, has been a huge hit in Japanese arcades over the past year, and whilst the obligatory move to Wii U was met with some derision, the game is shaping up to be quite the formidable beat-em-up. As highlighted with aplomb by the game's first Wii U trailer.
Check it out:
The Poké-brawler will come complete with 11 Pokémon ready to beat each other up for your entertainment. The combatants are Blaziken, Weavile, Charizard, Gardevoir, Gengar, Lucario, Machamp, Suicune, Pikachu (and Pikachu's Luchador doppelgänger... why not!) and Sceptile.
Sceptile was the latest Pokémon to be added to the roster, and here's a trailer of it in action:
Naturally the game will have amiibo support, with the first issues of the game coming complete with a Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card. Shadow Mewtwo being the impossibly awesome mega evolution of the legendary psychic Pokémon.
Upon the game's Japanese release, there will be a corresponding Wii U bundle which comes with a black 32gb version of the console with PT already installed.
Though there's been no news as to when Bandai Namco's latest fighter will arrive on western shelves, Pokkén Tournament releases Spring 2016 in JP. And hopefully, hopefully not too late after that here!
Fingers crossed I guess.
