These days we're living in a golden age of superheroes, with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War both on the horizon. We also have fantastic shows like Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl, all of which feature people with incredible abilities living out their day-to-day lives.
But what about the super-humans that live among us? I've compiled a list of 8 genuine people who have abilities most of us would deem supernatural. Which power would you want?
1. Hyper Endurance
Dean Karnazes is one of the fittest men on the planet with a record-breaking level of endurance, in addition to being a best-selling author. According to Emgn, Karnazes ran for 80 hours on a treadmill and ran 50 marathons in 50 days. His own science team has voiced their belief that if kept hydrated and fed, he could run at 7-10 mph until dying of old age!
2. The Telekinetic Woman
Perhaps the Soviet Union isn't the most reliable of sources, but in the 1960s there were frequent reports of Nine Kulagina using telekinetic abilities. Amazingly, she was actually filmed moving objects using only her mind!
Perhaps she won't be using her abilities in battle any time soon, but they were supposedly respected under the Soviet government, who believed her powers could be used for medical research.
3. The Echolocator
There are many reported cases of blind people developing interesting ways to deal with their disabilities, including the use of echolocation: using a series of clicks as a means of determining their location.
However, Ben Underwood - who sadly died in 2009 from the same cancer which stole his vision - developed his skill to an incredible level, using echolocation to rollerblade, play football and skateboard!
4. Rubber Man
Meet Daniel Browning Smith, a.k.a. Rubber Man! Officially "most flexible man alive" accord to the Guinness Book of World Records, Daniel can supposedly dislocate his arms as a means of fitting through an unstrung tennis racket.
5. Superhuman reflexes
Many of us boast about having great reflexes, but Isao Machii possesses innate reflexes which have progressed to an almost superhuman level!
Machii, from Japan, processes his immediate environment differently to most humans. When observing a moving Object, Machii can predict it's movement with incredible accuracy. Through use of his Katana the swordsman has been known to entertain audiences by slicing air-soft pellets which can potentially move at speeds of 550 feet per second.
He's not a guy I'd mind watching by back in a tough situation!
6. Das Muskelkind
Now that's incredible! An unnamed German boy was born in 1999 with incredible muscle mass, giving him six times the strength of his peers, leaving Doctors fascinated by his DNA.
It seems that the incredible child has a genetic mutation that builds muscle, used commercially for ultra-muscular cattle. We'll have to wait and see if this super-kid grows into a full-blown powerhouse!
7. Ice Man
Wim Hof, otherwise known as the Ice Man, is impervious to cold. The middle-aged Dutchman has performed incredible feats, including partially climbing Mount Everest in nothing but a pair of shorts, swimming under 80 meters of ice and running a half marathon in the Arctic Circle.
Strangely, doctors have concluded that Hof is physiologically no different to the rest of us. The Ice Man claims that his abilities are gained through a meditation technique known as Tummo: a monk technique which the Dutchman has perfected to the extreme. Now that's pretty cool!
8. Superhuman stomach
Ever seen a bike, tyre or an airplane on the menu? Michael Lotito sure wouldn't mind. He's been eating metal, plastic and other indigestible materials since he ate a TV set at 9 years old!
Lotito has an incredibly dense stomach lining, giving him an eating capacity that The Blob would be proud of. However, unlike The Blob, Lotito has never eaten a human being... at least, not that we know of.
Which ability would you choose?
