William Shatner a.k.a. Captain Kirk has long been a vocal Star Wars opponent in the sci-fi series's rivalry with Star Trek.

Although he has been badgering Star Wars fans on social media for the last few months, mocking the new movie on almost every front, he took to Twitter tonight to "admit" that Star Wars: The Force Awakens was "superb."

As nobel as it was for the actor to give credit to what is surely a magnificent piece of cinema, he couldn't help but refer to the long-running joke that the movie "might have been better" with him in it. Oh Captain.

Some sci-fi fans think that such a concept would be too much to handle...

During the build up to the release of the movie, the 84-year-old actor and prolific tweeter has taken pleasure in riling up fans with cheeky memes entitled "What Bill learned from the Star Wars trailer."

He even takes a jab at BB-8...

The veteran actor has no qualms serving out insults that stir up fans ...

An astute follower replied to Shatner referencing the fact that J.J. Abrams, who directed Star Wars Episode: The Force Awakens, also directed the most recent Star Trek films...

Touché Jon.

During the 2015 CMAs, Shatner stormed the stage in a Stormtrooper costume and sent the audience into a fit of laughter when he started his opening speech with praise of Star Trek pretending like he didn't realize he was supposed to be talking about Star Wars. Check it out:

It seems like the USS Enterprise Captain enjoys nothing more than stirring up a little controversy, and who's going to stop him... he's William Shatner.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December, 18. Everyone prepare!
