Originally due to release around this time, Persona 5 was due to be one of the biggest games of the year. Sadly, Atlus felt it was necessary to delay the release date of the game to 2016, in order to ensure that the series' reputation for excellence was met when Persona 5 arrives on PS4 and PS3. Oh well, as the late Iwata once said: "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is always bad." What a man.

But Persona 5 has stark competition in terms of coming out on top in 2016. There is a full roster of excellent JRPGs on the horizon with the likes of Dark Souls 3 arriving in April of next year. But obviously one of the biggest games of 2016 is to be the Final Fantasy title that has managed to escape death: Final Fantasy 15.

Final Fantasy 15 Vs. Persona 5

Where do your loyalties lie? Personally, I've been a huge fan of Megami Tensei games for years. Nocturne is an underrated masterpiece, and the Persona series is often the epitome of the JRPG genre. Seriously, if you're a Final Fantasy fan who hasn't engaged with the Persona games (or at least Persona 4), get on it. It'll be worth every minute.

The Persona games sometimes offer up to 100 hours of content for you to enjoy. It's insane. Sure, there's often a lot of grinding involved, but Persona 4 managed to strike a remarkable balance between gameplay and narrative. If Persona 5 manages to improve on its predecessors design, we'll be looking at one of the finest games ever made. But that's not to say that Final Fantasy 15 doesn't have what it takes to beat it.

The Final Fantasy series has contributed some of the greatest games of all time to the gaming world. Final Fantasy 15 hopes to expand upon that legacy by incorporating the traditional traits of the series with the design of massive RPGs from the west. Episode Duscae gave us an insight into what that'd be like, and provided some of the title's more annoying features are fixed, we could see a rather remarkable masterpiece in 2016.
