***THIS IS A SPOILER-FREE REVIEW***
It's been ten years since the last Star Wars movie was in the big screen. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a sequel to the original trilogy. Ever since the teaser trailer that was released back in December of 2014, fans have been wanting to see more. It wasn't until April 16, 2015 when the first full trailer was released and fans completely lost their minds.
The trailer was viewed over 72 million times on YouTube.
A few months later, the final trailer was released and the hype for the film unbelievable. It was viewed over 73 million times on YouTube. About 1 million more than the first trailer.
Finally on December 17, 2015 many lucky fans got to see the film. I was fortunate enough to see the film the night before the release date and all I have to say is that this is the Star Wars movie fans have been waiting for.
The Force Awakens featured the original trio Harrison Ford (Hon Solo), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) along with Chewbacca, R2D2, C3PO and the new padawans Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Fin), and Adam Driver (Kylo Ren).
Director J.J. Abrams included the elements of action, imagination, adventure, fun, fantasy and the universal struggle between good and evil. The very same elements that made the original trilogy great.
Unlike the prequels, The Force Awakens featured practical effects for the majority of the film and was filmed in various locations. When watching fighting scenes, it was hard to tell what was real and what was CGI. It was all done beautifully how they were done. It really gave me a nostalgic feeling. The same feeling that I felt when I first watched Star Wars for the very first time. The scenes felt natural and not over-the-top ridiculous like the prequels.
Not only was seeing the film a great experience but the people attending the show were cheerful. Whenever a character from the original trilogy appeared, something badass happened, or if something funny was said, the fans reacted positively. They laughed, cheered, and in some cases cried tears of joy and excitement.
Overall, did the film live up to the hype? Yes! Was it worth the wait? Absolutely! Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a must see this holiday season. It has a well written story that stays true to the original trilogy.
