Warning: I'll do my best to avoid spoilers for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens,' but a few could potentially lie ahead.
An ever-increasing number of Star Wars fans have been flocking to the movies this week to see Abrams's new addition to the franchise: The Force Awakens. I'm sure many of you have already seen the movie and have developed your own strong opinions, as have I -- but let's discuss Star Wars VII easter eggs.
So, has Abrams included any easter eggs and references in 'The Force Awakens' to tantalize his loyal audiences?
Well, in an interview with Popsugar, Abrams revealed that the movie does contain the easter egg filled scene we've been looking for, and fortunately he hasn't kept us on the dark side of the discussion.
"We put some Easter eggs in, but they were Easter eggs that weren't sort of the normal, from-another-movie type of Easter eggs."
Well, that's a good start. It's important to have plenty of original trilogy and wider canon references in The Force Awakens, but I'm fairly sure a modern pop-culture reference could hurt the movie.
Abrams continued by saying:
"They were things we knew people would discover upon later viewings. Small things. But there's a chase that involves the Falcon, and if you look at it carefully, there are a couple of things that happen in it that might be fun to recognize."
It seems as though Abrams has really tailored Star Wars: The Force Awakens to the fans... no complaints here!
Without dropping any spoilers, I've seen the scene in question and I've got a few thoughts about what he might be referring to. I'm also fairly certain that we might pick up on additional hidden easter eggs and references with a few more viewings. Damn, back to the cinema I guess!
It's also apparent that Abrams has included a good number of easter eggs and references to the original trilogy without over-saturating the film, allowing it to stand on its own, despite being rather familiar to anyone who's seen Star Wars: A New Hope.
Although we can't be entirely sure, having seen the movie, I'm fairly certain Abrams is referring to this particular chase scene, involving the Millennium Falcon on the planet of Jakku.
The scene takes place towards the beginning of the movie, shortly after our first glimpse at the Millennium Falcon in action and back in the air. We see the Falcon being chased by Tie Fighters and showing-off some incredible moves in the process.
Some of the easter eggs included in the scene are fairly obvious, including the derelict Imperial Star Destroyer which the Falcon flies into, accompanied by the pursuing tie fighter.
Have a look at a clip from the trailer which shows a extract from the scene in question.
Remember to look out for easter eggs in this particular scene when you next watch the movie!
I'll put out more information on specifics as I discover them and as they become available. Until then, may the force be with you!
