All year, we've hardly heard any news about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's precious, and probably equally beautiful, offspring. In fact, all we really knew was that they welcomed a daughter sometime around Christmas 2014 and called her James.
Until now, that is. On Wednesday, at what appears to be exactly a year later, the proud papa took to Twitter to celebrate his little girl's first birthday with this hilarious dad tweet:
Yep, a huge congrats to Ryan and Blake and a tiny hooray for us -- we have finally been graced with the additional detail that their bundle of joy was in fact born on December 16.
"I have this stupid grin on my face all the time"
Although we have no recent snaps of the birthday girl, Reynolds has been sharing snippets of information over the past year. For example, in an October interview with GQ magazine, the Deadpool star spoke about the responsibilities of being a dad, saying:
“I have no problem waking up five times in the middle of the night and changing diapers, and as exhausted as you get, I have this stupid grin on my face all the time.”
Bless! And in addition to this, the actor spoke out about his struggle to keep James out of the public eye. So much so, that admitted that he feels he always holds back when talking about her in interviews:
“I find it to be really obnoxious. In fact, every time I talk about my kid in public, I’m generally talking about how average she is."
At home however, it's a different story:
"At home, I’m like ‘You’re a genius! Oh, my God! You just took a s— in your diaper that came out as a perfect musical note!”
It's understandable why the happy parents are so cautious in this day of cameras, social media and celebrity obsession and kudos to them for keeping their child from the prying eyes of the paparazzi -- it sure can't be healthy for the kid.
And earlier this year, they found out this very fact the hard way, when a close friend of Ryan's tried to sell images of their newborn to the media. Back then, Reynolds revealed his anger at the situation:
"A guy that I’d known for my whole life, one of my closest friends growing up, he had been shopping pictures of my baby around. I kind of got in front of it, which is good. But it was a slightly dark period. A bad couple of weeks."
He should've taught that guy a hard lesson, just like Deadpool would have. Here's the announcement trailer that dropped recently:
