Recently, I had the privilege of seeing an early screening of The Big Short starring Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, and Steve Carell. I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was! Now, don't get me wrong, my weak mind didn't comprehend a lot of the technical terms that were used, but, amidst all of the big words and men that are better looking than me... I was captivated! If you like serious movies that aren't afraid to make jokes and push boundaries, this movie is made for you... But, if that didn't convince you, here are a few other reasons why!
Each of these characters were so genuine and relatable. They are all outsiders doing they're best to make it in the world. From a guy who 'gets his hair cut at Supercuts and doesn't wear shoes', to a guy in an anger management support group. Each of the actors blended so well together. If any of these men were in a movie together again, you'd definitely see me in the theater!
Don't let me mislead you, this is definitely a serious movie, but, it has some really funny parts and characters! All of the jokes in this movie are perfectly timed and fitting to the mood of the scene. None of them were childish jokes, or incredibly cheesey (like most of Steve Carell's movies), they were mature, subtle, and to the point!
This is a true story about four outsiders in the world of finance who predicted the credit and housing bubble collapse of the mid-2000's. They then decide to take on big banking companies for their lack of foresight and greed. With this story in mind, it's even more incredible when you find out that all of this actually happened! Crazy, right? The story telling is phenomenal. Especially with the fun points of, Ryan Gosling's character, Jared Vennett, narrating most of the story, the Saved By The Bell-esque talking to the viewer, and The Office-like camera work. It truly is an interesting and captivating movie!
