The return to the cabin! Those are the five words that Evil Dead fans wanted to hear and that's what we got. If some of the past Ash vs Evil Dead episodes have thrown in some nostalgic nods to the older classic movies, Ashes to Ashes threw in everything and the kitchen sink. When Ash returns to the cabin, the bench is still swaying just like when he first encountered the cabin some 34 years ago. The stags head is still on the wall, the grandfather clock is here, the mirror, the disused dirty kitchen, the tape recorder, the chained basement and of course the 'workshed'. Ashes to Ashes was a fans wet dream.
PINCH YOURSELF- WE'RE BACK AT THE CABIN
It may have taken us 8 episodes to get here but let's admit it it was worth it. Ash finally finds the cabin and nostalgia has come full circle for us the viewer and Ash. Where to start? The rocking bench by the porch, the swinging chair, the grandfather clock the whole eeriness of the place took us back to a time of our childhoods. Ash had finally arrived 'home' so to speak but he wouldn't be alone for long.
"LAST TIME I WAS HERE WITH A GIRL I WAS HOPING TO GET LAID"
Ruby catches up with Ash first after his disappearence whilst Pablo and Kelly are lost in the woods. Amanda tells Ash that she's ready to fight this thing as a team but Ash warns her that this cabin is "a bitch". Right off the bat once Amanda enters the cabin she gets flashbacks of her partner being impaled from the first episode and Ash senses that the cabin is already messing with her mind.
THE REEL TO REEL.....
Of all the really cool nuances in the cabin, can anything top the reel to reel recorder. This was found on the floor and still playing. It was great to see it back again, and perhaps this can only be topped by a trip to the basement. Meanwhile Ash tells Amanda to stay in the cabin alone ( why the hell did he say that?) as he goes to the workshed, that's right! THE WORKSHED to get some tools.
SOMEHOW THESE HIKERS SURVIVED MORE THAN 10 MINUTES
I mean how is this possible? They have no idea but these Australian folk are in the worst batch of woods this side of Crystal Lake. Not only are they 'great' hikers but they even passed the cabin and know where it is. This is confirmed when they bump into Pablo and Kelly who are lost and they redirect them there. Surely we will be seeing these guys toasted in episode 9?
GUESS WHO'S BACK IN THE WORKSHED ?
Ash makes his way to the workshed and got more than he bargained for. Pretty much everything was the same right down to his AXE girlfriend's head still waiting for him. The girl he chainsawed to death some 28 years ago. There she is a deadite demon tricking and summoning Ash to her. Not only does he have to put up with her but he is also locked in the workshed and can't get out. Meanwhile back in the cabin, Ash's hand has grown an Evil Ash and now we have two Ash's, and the evil one is out to get Amanda.
SHOCK HORROR AS EVIL ASH KILLS AMANDA
First up Ash finally gets to kiss Amanda, however this isn't the real Ash and Amanda first notices this in the 6th pic of our montage above, the evil hand is back with a bloody vengence. At this point Ash vs Evil Dead takes a real dark turn and the humor is dropped as Evil Ash beats Kelly to a pulp! A machete to her upper arm almost finishes her off but things get worse for Amanda when evil Ash throws her onto the once mounted stag, she dies a horrible painful death and I don't think any of us had seen that one coming. Amanda RIP although we may see her as a deadite in Episode 9. With this Pablo and Kelly arrive at the cabin, they first think that Ash killed Amanda, that is until evil Ash turns up and the fight of the century ensues, and then the episode ends on a cliffhanger.
That fight with evil Ash brought all of Ash's body problems with him as the two Ash's knew which body parts to attack. Fighting deadites and being an El Jefe has come at a price for dear Ash. The following ailments were mentioned during the fight- Trick Knee, Sore Kidneys, Fake Teeth, Bum Shoulder, Soft Balls!
FAREWELL JILL MARIE JONES
Let's give it up for Jill Marie Jones and say farewell. As detective Amanda Fisher she could never have forseen how her life would have changed in a matter of weeks. From the day to day workforce to the evil force, she certainly and I guess understandibly took some convincing that evil was at work. She really should have listened to Ash and never attempted to take on the cabin. As for Ash he loses another love interest at that damn cabin, what's the betting that someone else will catch his eye by the season's end?
