With Star Wars making a successful $238 million on it's opening night. Before I went to watch Star Wars The Force Awakens, I first had to watch the first and second trilogy before going for the 7th film. After I've watched episodes 1-6, I started realizing the similarities between Guardians of The Galaxy and the Star Wars franchise, the most similarities is with Star Wars episode 4, A New Hope. Despite both being loved and adored by many people, it isn't a coincidence. I for one love both films and the franchise.
After watching Guardians of The Galaxy again I could not help but realize there are more similarities than you can imagine. You would be surprised by what both franchise and film have in common. Let us get started shall we?
The "Dynamic Duo" who understand each other more than anyone else
The pair that understands each other more than anyone else. R2D2 and C3PO understand each other more than anyone. The first met each other in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Although both of them are close, other people can also understand them.
Rocket and Groot have known each other for a long time, they both escaped from a lab together, not many people can understand what Groot says because his vocabulary is limited to 'I' & 'Am' and 'Groot'. Rocket has known him for years better than anyone.
Finally we have Han Solo and Chewbacca. The thief and his partner in crime, have been together longer than anyone in the galaxy. Han is the only one who could understand every bit of word Chewie says, most people just understands some words, but Han understands everything. He knows what makes him angry, what makes him sad and how to keep him calm.
I love Rocket and Han Solo, it's hard for me to decide, but I think
Winner: Han Solo and Chewbacca. Star Wars
The one who never knew their father
About Peter Quill (based on MCU's version of origin story): He grew up on Earth until he was taken by The Ravagers and raised by them. He grew up and became one of the best thief in the galaxy. When he stole the Orb from a sacred place and betrayed his leader Yondu, Yondu placed a bounty on his head soon attracting Rocket and Groot after him. Star-Lord, Groot, Rocket and Gamora were arrested but the next day they broke out with the help of Drax The Destroyer. After Ronan got hold of The Orb, he attacked Xandar but was defeated by the Guardians of The Galaxy, they became a hero and Peter Quill became their leader.
Peter Quill and Luke Skywalker both never knew their father. Peter at least got to know his mother but Luke Skywalker never knew his parents. Both of these characters father's are a big mystery, especially Peter Quill's father, Jason Quill. Although we know how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader but after he turned to the dark side there is just as much mystery to be solved as Jason Quill. What's different about these characters is that one is a professional thief (or Ravager) and another one is just an innocent man.
Between these two, it's hard to say. I mean don't get me wrong Luke Skywalker is just an awesome Jedi, he even convinced his father to turn back to the light side, but I'm just going to go with Peter Quill on this one. He's got charm, he has skills as a Ravager and a great thief.
Winner: Peter Quill. Guardians of The Galaxy
This can't be a coincidence. Both films have a prison break scene. GoTG is the whole team breaking out of prison, Star Wars is breaking someone out of prison, and that someone is Princess Leia Organa/Skywalker. Both teams went to great lengths to pull of the prison break, Star Wars has even a bonus with a dramatic Obi-Wan Kenobi's death scene. GoTG prison break is about getting out of prison and it was a fun scene to watch and Star Wars: A New Hope's prison break scene played out well. This is practically the same scene, you know in GoTG it's an all yellow prison costume and in Star Wars: A New Hope is an all white team up. White Stormtrooper suit and Leia's white dress.
I'd give this one to GoTG.
Winner: Guardians of The Galaxy
Weapons that can destroy a planet
About The Orb/Power stone: Left unguarded at a distant planet and kept secretly. Found by Peter Quill, when Peter quill tried to trade it for units but was rejected, he was confronted by Gamora who was trying to retrieve the cube After they got out of prison Gamora betrayed Ronan and wanted to give it to The Collector for safekeeping where they also learned that one stone can destroy and entire planet and there were 7 stones. After Ronan got his hands on it in on Knowhere. He used it for himself to destroy Xandar and betrayed Thanos. After he was defeated by the Guardians of The Galaxy, the Nova Corps kept the power stone safe.
About The Death Star: Built by The Empire to destroy planets. Not as big as the latest (spoiler alert)...
The Death Star was destroyed in A New Hope. But rebuilt in return of The Jedi and destroyed again by the Rebels. The Death Star is bigger than The Orb/Power Stone. But not as powerful as the Power Stone.
Now this is a competition. The Orb (or the power gem) against The Death Star. The Orb has been used to destroy a planet since ancient times in the Marvel Universe. The Titans used it to rule the universe, and now the only Titan is everyone's favorite, Thanos is collecting them all. The Death Star is a whole new different thing, after we were introduced to a newer version of the Death Star (or known by it's other name Starkiller) which is bigger, it's like Jupiter and Death Star is just one of it's moon's and the tiniest moon. But we're talking about the Death Star not the Starkiller. The Death Star is a space station used to destroy planets. We were introduced to it in Star Wars: A New Hope and we see it blow up until it is rebuilt in Star Wars: Return of The Jedi.
As much as I love Star Wars and GoTG. I don't think the Death Star stands a chance against The Orb. It takes a big space station to destroy a planet in Star Wars, while it takes an infinity stone to destroy a planet. If one infinity stone could destroy a planet imagine what the whole loaded infinity gauntlet can do. Besides it might take time to recharge after destroying a planet with a Death Star.
Winner: Power stone. Guardians of The Galaxy
About Thanos: Do I really need to explain this? Thanos is the last of his species known as Titanian Eternal. He destroys planets, he kills and rules. He does it all to impress Death. Death is Thanos' love interest and uses Thanos to destroy the galaxy. In GoTG he is known to be Ronan's big boss of some sort. He tells Ronan of the Power Stone and tells Ronan to retrieve it, and also in Avengers Age of Ultron, people say Thanos made Ultron come to life (or sent Ultron) to retrieve the Mind Stone from Loki's scepter, after Loki failed his mission. After Ultron failed, at the post credits scene of AoU, we see Thanos taking the Infinity Gauntlet while saying...
I'll do it myself
Meaning Thanos will be going galaxy to galaxy to collect all of the Infinity Stones.
About Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine: First appeared in Star Wars: A New Hope, Darth Sidious is known as Darth Vader's (well) emperor. Much like Thanos he gives orders to Darth Vader and let's Darth vader does his dirty work for him. Ruling galaxy to galaxy, storing order into the universe. basically it's like the space version of Civil War. His powers are not to be underestimated.
Thanos is an only Titan and a very powerful one, even without the infinity gauntlet. Darth Sidious is a powerful sith, he seduced Anakin Skywalker to join the dark side with his stories and everything. Only a powerful warrior is able to manipulate the force lightning. So Darth Sidious has the force and the force lightning as a bonus, but that's nothing compared to Thanos. The mean purple Titan is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. Darth Sidious is Darth Vader's leader, while Ronan The Accuser is Thanos'. What does the Star Wars franchise have against Thanos? It started as Emperor Palpatine and then Darth Sidious (even though they're the same guys) and now the changed it to (spoiler alert)...
Supreme Leader Snoke
Thanos is only Thanos. If Thanos were to fight Darth Sidious, Thanos would win. If Thanos fights against Supreme Leader Snoke, surely there is a 70% chance Thanos would win. But if Thanos was to be blinded by the power of the dark side, Darth Sidious could seduce him and then make him a slave to Darth Sidious.
Winner: It's a tie.
About Ronan: Ronan is a person with anger issues. He does not like being underestimated nor does he like to be a slave. His universal weapon (the hammer) is very powerful not only is it strong to kill but it can also unleash (I guess you could say) force. Introduced in GoTG as Thanos' servant. Sent out to find the Power Stone and give it to Thanos, but betrayed Thanos and uses it to destroy Xandar. He was then efeated by the Guardians of The Galaxy.
About Darth Vader: All fans of Star Wars, I don't you need or have to read this. But to those who don't know much about Star Wars, you need to read this. Anakin Skywalker started out as a young boy who races pods for a living. After Qui-Gon Jinn got him out of being a slave he was trained by Obi Wan Kenobi. In Revenge of The Sith, Anakin Skywalker was seduced by Darth Sidious into joining the dark side. After a battle with obi Wan Kenobi in a volcano, Anakin burnt his arm, leg and well almost 70% of his body. At the end of Revenge of The Sith, Darth Sidious gave him armor for his body which would also help him breathe and move. From that day forward he became known as Darth Vader.
Now we get to their apprentices. Ronan isn't so much as an apprentice, more like a slave sent to do Thanos' dirty work for him. Ronan was first sent to retrieve the Orb/power stone, unfortunately The Guardians got it first. But after that Ronan took it form the Guardians, but instead of giving it to Thanos, he used it for himself to destroy the planet Xandar (but failed). Even without the power stone on his hammer, Ronan is still powerful. Darth Vader on the other hand is a loyal, powerful and humble person. He is loyal to the dark side until his son convinced him to turn back to the light side. Between Vader and Ronan, both beings are powerful. But power doesn't always win a fight, it also takes intellect. Darth Vader is the smarter being and Ronan is the more powerful being, almost an equally match. Ronan does things for himself and does not care about others. Darth Vader does it for the dark side. I'd say it's a win-win.
Winner: It's a tie.
The one who puts a bounty on someone's head
(I don't know much about Yondu or Jabba so no explanation here, sorry guys)
Both of them are not bad guys. Just anti-heroes. Yondu only cares about money and Jabba, well Jabba doesn't care about anything except for entertainment. Peter Quill and Han Solo have a bounty on their heads, set by the ones they lied to/owe. Peter Quill is a thief and not so loyal to the Ravagers. Han Solo is a you could say, smuggler and also thief. After Peter Quill stole The orb/power stone and kept it for himself. Yondu put a bounty on his head which would eventually attract Rocket and Groot after him. After the Millennium Falcon was boarded and they stole Han Solo's loot, he owed Jabba The Hutt, and so Jabba put a bounty on his (Han Solo's) head and attracted Boba Fett. Considering both of them have the power to put bounty on someone. Yondu would be the better person. Jabba is just fat and lazy. Yondu would have a great chance at destroying Jabba.
Winner: Yondu Hudanta. Guardians of The Galaxy
Peter Quill owns a spaceship known as Milano. Which basically was given by Yondu and the Ravagers. The Milano is a ship you do not want to judge. It's fast, it has lots of powerful weapons and it's bigger in the inside than it looks on the outside. Then we have it's Star Wars competition...
Han Solo's Millennium Falcon can travel at light speeds in hyperdrive. The problem with it? The weapons can only be controlled manually. Everytime they're attacked someone would need to go to the weapons and fire them. Of course the Milano would need to do the same but at least they wouldn't need to go to the back and use the guns. The Milano is big fast and powerful but it can't always fit tight spaces. The Millennium Falcon is wide, you'd need to fly vertically to fight tight spaces. I love both ships. But I'm gonna go with The Millennium Falcon on this one.
Winner: Millenium Falcon
About Gamora: Gamora is Thanos' adoptive daughter. Thanos found Gamora after her family and whole species was killed/exterminated by the Badoon or in her original timeline, the Universal Church of Truth. Thanos promised her revenge and trained her to become a weapon of killing. Gamora was raised to kill Magus. Although Thanos was mean to her she is loyal to Thanos. In GoTG, Gamora betrayed both Ronan and Thanos so she could keep the Power Stone from them. Gamora has always had a competition with her sister Nebula, they both would do anything to prove themselves and to please their father.
About Leia Organa: Born and raised apart from her brother Luke Skywalker but has always known and felt she had a brother. Leia was raised in a rich and famous lifestyle as a princess. In Return of The Jedi, when Luke told Leia about her being his sister, she said she had always known she had a brother. It can't just be a coincidence that Leia Skywalker is the daughter of Anakin Skywalker AKA Darth Vader and Gamora is Thanos' adoptive daughter. Although Gamora is an adoptive daughter, Leia is no different, she never knew her father, not until Return of The Jedi when Luke tells her Darth Vader is their father.
