Soon enough, the name on everyone’s lips will be Joy. Not Joy, the emotion from Pixar’s Inside Out, but Joy, the single mother who battled every obstacle to realize her dream. Loosely based on the success story of Joy Mangano, the inventor of the Miracle Mop, this rags-to-riches story of an unlikely hero is absolutely inspirational and surprisingly relatable. You may wonder how a movie about the inventor of a popular infomercial product could possibly be that captivating. However, what will connect moviegoers with this film, regardless of age, gender, or status, are the struggles that everyone who chases a dream experiences. Jennifer Lawrence knocks it out of the park with a phenomenal performance as she takes you through every feeling of fear, disappointment, sadness, anger, excitement, and of course -- joy. If you’re struggling in fulfilling your life’s dream, Joy will show you how to climb the mountain to success.

It’s not about where you start, but where you’re headed. Don’t let a crappy job and life’s obligations stifle your ambition. We all start out at the bottom, but what really matters is where you end up at the end of it all. Don’t quit until you reach the finish line because it may be more glorious than you can imagine.

Don’t take “no” for an answer. You’ll hear this two letter word a lot in your life, but don’t take it lying down! “There’s no way you can make a living watching movies and writing on a blog,” they’ll say (shoutout to my Moviepilot peeps). You’ve got bills to pay, you’ve got mouths to feed, and you have no money. When there are a million and one obstacles that stand in your way, you need to block out the naysayers, even when that naysayer is you.

Put in work. Got a great idea in your brain? Write it down, even if it’s with a crayon on low-grade construction paper. Take the steps to make it work. Try and try again until you get it right.

Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself. When you're going against the grain, you'll get a lot of unsolicited and often erroneous advice. People will doubt your decisions and you'll find yourself in a place where you will often need to defend your decisions. Do so with strength and grace.

It’s OK to blow off some steam. Anger and disappointment can be a heavy burden all on its own. Sometimes, you just need to let it all out, even if it’s just for a split second before returning to your crusade.

Always be yourself. Don’t lose yourself in the race to the top. There will be those who will tell you that you need to look and act a certain way in order to succeed. Follow your instincts and do what feels right for you.

Believe in yourself even if the whole world is watching. Sometimes it feels like the whole world is watching and waiting for you to fail. Gather your courage and don’t give up. When you surprise everyone will all the success you’ve achieved, it will feel that much more amazing.

Achieving success is a hard and arduous journey. It isn’t pretty and it sure isn’t convenient. However, Joy will show you that if you keep going, the rewards are worth the wait.

Be sure to catch Joy in theaters December 25th.
