Massive spoilers for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' lie ahead!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been in our lives for a week now, which means it's time for incredible and irregular fan theories. Let's face it, as awesome as The Force Awakens was to behold, it's just a small aspect of a much grander story.
For many of us, Kylo Ren has been a huge topic of discussion: how did he turn to the dark side, what are his goals, how powerful will he become and where does his true allegiance lie?
But, what if Kylo Ren is the hero of the story?
My initial response to this theory was to note that we saw him cut down his father, Han Solo, and that he supposedly killed many Jedi in training alongside the Knights of Ren. However, 'Uproxx' reports that the dad of Tumblr user, Letícia Piroutek, came up with his own theory about how Kylo could secretly be the hero of the tale.
"OK SO WE GOT OUT OF OUR SECOND THE FORCE AWAKENS SHOWING AND MY DAD WAS DRIVING US HOME AND OUT OF NOWHERE HE WAS LIKE: ………………….oh my god. w HAT IF KYLO REN CHOSE TO GO TO THE DARK SIDE SO HE COULD HELP THE LIGHT SIDE! AND I WAS LIKE WHAT! SO HE WAS LIKE HEAR ME OUT WHAT IF HE WENT TO THE DARK SIDE JUST SO HE COULD KILL SNOKE!!!!"
The comment goes on for a lot longer, but the theory is essentially: what if Kylo's evil, cruel behavior is a result of him intentionally turning to the dark side, in order to find and kill Snoke?
This could ultimately mean that Kylo's emotional turmoil stems from the fact that he is actually an agent of light choosing to embrace the dark side, which he needs in order to get powerful enough to face Snoke.
This theory is supported by Redditor BPDJR, who suggests that Kylo is attempting to gain more power from the dark side in order to destroy Snoke. The Redditor also says:
"The scene where he [Kylo] is talking to Darth Vader's skull, he says that he feels the good in himself and that he fears it. We are led to believe that he fears/dislikes the good inside himself because that will stop him from helping the Empire. He actually fears the good in him because it disqualifies him from being able to feed off the true power of the dark side of the force, which hampers him in his true mission, which is to defeat the Empire."
BPDJR reasons that Kylo's inability to fully access the power of the dark side explains why he was defeated by Rey, who is untrained, yet fully one with the light side of the Force.
This theory is damn strange, but we're dealing with a new breed of Star Wars movies and can expect anything to happen! This would also go some way towards explaining why Kylo doesn't yet seem like a true villain: because he's not.
I've previously written that Kylo is destined to become the greatest of villains, but could he really be an agent of the light with enough power and forethought to embrace the dark side, thus making him a gray Jedi of immense power?
