2016 really will be the year of the superhero movie! But as big releases like Batman vs Superman, Civil War, and X-Men: Apocalypse advertise doom and gloom, we have Deadpool to remind us that superhero movies can be fun. And totally, utterly, gloriously, violent. So let us bask in the even more NSFW trailer 2, and all the cheeky easter eggs dropped in just for us...
This trailer reveals a bit more about the plot. Specifically, it gives Deadpool a motivation for all that delicious carnage: he's trying to save his "best girl" a.k.a. Vanessa Carlysle a.k.a. Copycat (more on her later).
Aside from that, there are some extended fight sequences, and more of Deadpool chatting up Colossus. The metalman's involvement in Deadpool goes a long way to establishing a link to the X-Men movies, but it looks like some of his X-pals might just get involved too...
Check out this shot from the trailer...
See that in the background? This seems to be the X-Men's Blackbird. Deadpool is set in modern day, which means we'll gain a new insight into the world of the X-Men after Bryan Singer's reset in [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](tag:203942). The changes in that film rippled out along the timeline, meaning everything that happened in the first X-Men trilogy is now slightly different.
So is this the only jet that the X-Men have? And how has Xavier's team developed? Obviously, this isn't something the Deadpool movie will focus on, but keep your eyes peeled for more hints about what's happening with everyone's favorite mutants. And speaking of mutants, what's up with Negasonic Teenage Warhead?
Negasonic Teenage Warhead, otherwise known as Ellie Phimister, is already quite different in the Deadpool movie than in the Marvel comics.
Firstly, she's introduced as not only a member of the X-Men, rather than the Hellfire Club, but also as Colossus's mentoree. And as trailer 2 reveals, her psychic powers have been switched out for this pretty explosive upgrade. Director Tim Miller shed some light on the changes, in a recent interview with Empire.
"Her powers fit with who she feels like she is in the movie and so to me it’s just like other characters in the Marvel universe, like Nitro, for instance, whose power is to just explode parts of their body. She can transfer the force of the explosion down so she can move upwards - she can put it into a punch if she wanted to. So it was really just her fist exploding as she hit somebody."
That is... so cool.
After Xavier and Emma Frost, plus a bunch of other mutants, gave us all the psychic powers we could ever need, it's gonna be totally awesome to see Negasonic Teenage Warhead explode (at) people. And there's one guy in particular we'd like to see her take down...
Ajax In Charge
The big bad guys are a mysterious bunch alright, and the last trailer hinted that Ajax was in charge without actually giving us a money shot of his face. But trailer 2 established that Ajax is probably the one spearheading the "super slave" project... but why? What does he want? And is his name really... Francis??
In the comics, Ajax wasn't the one leading the Weapon X project. That would be Dr. Killebrew (apparently, Murder Corpse was already taken. And so was Kilgrave). We still don't know whether Killebrew will be pulling the strings behind the scenes, or whether the Deadpool movie has changed things around a bit so that Ajex is the one in charge. At least we know Deadpool's hard at work figuring it out.
But whoever's calling the shots, it looks like they're after one person in particular...
Copycat's In Trouble
The last trailer didn't shed a lot of light on Vanessa's character, aside from the fact that she's Wade Wilson's girlfriend. Now it looks like Ajax and the gang are after her too... but why? Do they want to use her for the "super slave" program? Considering her considerable shapeshifting abilities, there's no doubt she'd be a powerful asset to them. But maybe it's something else they're after...
"I've played a lot of roles in my life. Damsel in distress ain't one of them."
Did Vanessa do something to piss Ajax off? And is he out for revenge? We just don't know yet, but one thing's for certain: there's more to Copycat than meets the eye.
Bonus: That's A Pretty Huge Bone...
Or like, twenty. Trailer 2 gave us a brief shot of this mysterious mutant, who fans have already identified as Marrow.
What can this mutant do? Grow extra bones and chuck them at people, of course! That's a pretty handy skill, but considering the facility seems to get burned to the ground, it's possible Marrow didn't make it out of the program alive. Shame.
