2016 is lined-up to be the year of the superhero movie, with an array of comic book adaptations attracting attention from fans of every creed. Batman or Superman, Iron Man or Captain America, DC or Marvel? There's a superhero for every fan and 2016 is ready to exploit every inch of the hype.

But with all these comic book adaptations hitting our screens, which is the most eagerly anticipated superhero movie of 2016?

5. Deadpool

After Deadpool's role in 2009's Wolverine movie it was a common belief among comic book fans that the days of a potential Deadpool solo movie were done. Come on guys, why did you sew his damned mouth shut?

Despite Wade Wilson's troubled history, we're on the verge of a Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool... again. But don't worry, the writing for Wolverine was poor, but Reynolds played his role pretty well.

The fans are really excited about this soon-to-be comic book classic, and who can blame them? Reynolds is at his best when he can screw around, so what better role could he have than the Merc with a Mouth?

Deadpool is due for release February 12, 2016. It's time to get excited!

4. Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad represents a new breed of comic book movies in that it's centered around a team of villains, rather than heroes. The film is set to tie in with Batman, although it's unknown whether we'll be seeing characters such as Deadshot (Will Smith) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) in future solo Batman movies.

The project has attracted a lot of attention, due in no small part to Jared Leto's role as The Joker. If successful the movie will no doubt lead to further spin-offs, which has the fans understandably excited.

Set for release August 5, 2016, Suicide Squad will undoubtedly be one of the more interesting comic book adaptations of 2016.

3. X-Men: Apocalypse

X-Men: Apocalypse is the latest in a 15 year string of X-Men movies. Yup, that's right: the first X-Men movie was released back in the year 2000! Where does the time go?

The latest X-Men project has attracted a lot of attention and speculation; deservedly, as the last few X-Men movies have been action-packed and well-written. We can expect the latest movie in the franchise to be another gem, so no wonder the fans are amped!

Scheduled for release on May 27, the movie is due to be an instant classic!

2. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
