Earlier today we got a glimpse at the images EW would release of the second season of Daredevil in their newest issue. Now there is a whole new batch of amazing images and interviews to look at.
Here is a clearer HD look at the image released earlier. Jon Bernthal, who enjoyed walking alone to the Daredevil set to get into the mindset of the character, also shared his experience as the character:
“This character has resonated with law enforcement and military. He’s brought the war home with him in the worst possible way. And the best thing about him is that if he offends you, he just doesn’t care.”
Speaking about the slow introduction to the Kingpin in season 1 compared to Frank Castle's in season 2, Doug Petrie, one of the showrunners, said:
“We hit the ground running and then we ran as fast as we f—ing could.”
In this picture we can see Matt Murdock and Karen Page clearly building romantic feelings for one another, which is a smart continuation for where their relationship left off at the end of the first season.
I don't know about you but for me, the show's first season was extremely dark. And by dark I don't mean the storyline (well, that too but it was okay) but the extremely dim lightning usd for each scene. About that, Doug Petrie said:
“It will still be dark, but we’ve added more layers.”
Of Jon Bernthal´s Punisher, Petrie shared his opinion on the characterization, both on the ambiguity and setting him in a modern, more concerned world, not unlike the one we live in today:
“Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves,”
"Taking lethal justice into your own hands is in America in 2015 is tricky s—t. We have not shied away from the rich complicated reality of Now. If you’ve got a gun and you’re not the police you’re going to incite strong feelings. We’re stirring the pot and we’re aware of the headlines where we live and we’re trying to get people to think.”
And while we hear about super heroes being written as grounded, modern-world characters from their respective people in charge every other day, the issue with gun violence we experience today does seem like an interesting subject to touch on with a character like The Punisher.
Marco Ramirez, the other showrunner, shared his thoughts on the parallels between Daredevil and The Punisher:
“He has a different moral code, Matt is a devout Catholic — and you rarely see a character who’s a devotee anything on TV. Frank has Hammurabi’s Code. It’s like letting a great white shark into the water.”
According to EW, the show will have more sex with Matt Murdock getting closer to Karen Page and the arrival of Elektra. Of the latter and her relationship with Daredevil, Petrie said:
“Matt’s a deeply moral complicated guy and she’s just the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have, she does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.”
