2013 was the last time that we saw Rockstar Games release a new product. We've had the PS4, XBOX One and PC editions of GTA 5 since then, but nothing new. Therefore, imaginations have been running wild for the future of this developer and the various products they could be working on right now! Seriously, we could be getting LA Noire 2, another Max Payne, maybe another Manhunter, and of course Red Dead Redemption 2 (which seems like the most likely candidate for an upcoming release date).

But aside from that, there's also the future of the Grand Theft Auto franchise to take into account. We won't be seeing another GTA game for many years, but after so much time with GTA 5, we can't help but imagine what the future will bring.

5 Open World Games To Inspire GTA 6 Before Its Release Date

We all have aspects of GTA V that we'd like to see improved - for me its GTA Online, which suffers from severe loading times, server issues, and hackers. But there are other franchises we should look at for inspiration too. Therefore, we thought we'd take a look at 5 awesome open world games which have something to give GTA 6 before its release date.

Sleeping Dogs

Sleeping Dogs is an excellent open world game, but aside from its awesome setting and fun narrative, there's one aspect of the game that we'd love to see in GTA 6: hand-to-hand combat. Punching your foes in GTA 5 is fairly primitive, and while we wouldn't really mind if it remained the same, the fact that certain missions required you to fight with your fists showed how awful the system is. Sleeping Dogs has an epic combat system, one that makes hand-to-hand combat something that you can't wait to use in place of gunplay. This'd be awesome in GTA 6!

Just Cause 3

I'm currently in the middle of enjoying Avalanche Studio's latest entry into the Just Cause franchise and it's a stupid amount of fun. But there's one aspect of the game that I'd love to see in GTA 6: destructibility. The satisfaction that comes with blowing apart the walls of a corrupt police station, or a towering signal antenna is immense. While we can't see all of GTA 6's map becoming destructible, we'd love to see structures throughout its open world crumble to the ground.

Mafia & Mafia II

The Mafia games are renowned for their narratives. These games have gripping storylines and engaging characters. While I had fun with GTA 5's campaign, the story felt weak in comparison with what's come before and I really disliked how quickly its ending wrapped things up. It felt out of pace and rushed. I'd love to see GTA 6 rival the Mafia franchise in terms of narrative. I want to care about the game's characters more and feel compelled by the events that unfold.

The Witcher 3

GTA 5 teased us with a feature that could become a more prominent element in the future of the franchise: choice. At the end of GTA 5, we're given the choice to try and save Trevor from those hunting him, or simply kill him. The choice feels forced and it really comes from nowhere. Personally, I'd love to see more choices peppered throughout the campaign like we see with The Witcher 3. We actually impact on the outcome of the entire game and this'd be an impressive feature in GTA 6!

But what about you guys? What do you want from GTA 6 on its release date?
