The Big Short was a great film. It had a lot of drama and a lot of humor. The Big Short has many big stars that include Steve Carell, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt. They took all the actors and put them in the complete opposite of acting, finance. They all make great performances but the story made the movie extremely complicated
For example, The movie mentions many finance terms such as CDO's, mortgage bonds, and more. As a joke, they show many famous people explain these phrases. These people include actress Margot Robbie, Selina Gomez, and chef Anthony Bourdain. While funny, it is ineffective. The general public sees these people and does not pay attention to the underlying purpose of there appearance.
The movie starts off as some do, in the present. They introduce the main characters, and reveal the effects of the 07'-08' financial crisis around the globe and how they saw it coming. The acting here by these Bale, Carell, and Gosling is brilliant. Then, the story goes back to 2007 where it started.
I'm not going to explain the whole movie like most reviews for the my sake and the sake of you people. I'm here to simplify it for you. The whole movie basically delves into how Jared Vennett (Gosling) convinced people that the financial market was going to crash and how to save themselves. This is based on the findings by Michael Berry(Bale).
Then, those people decided to bet against the banks by buying "Credit Defaults Swaps"(It only gets worse). The movie does have a serious tone to it, granted that the crisis made millions of people lose there jobs and homes. Carell shows this side at the end of the movie
Even though it was a complicated story, The direction by Adam Mckay, The Acting by Bale, Gosling, Carell, and Pitt, and the humor brings it all together to make a great movie. The Big Short is in theaters now.
