Marvel has had the lead in making live action superhero films for a while now, but with several films premiering this year such as Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad, and with movies such as Wonder Woman and Justice League starting production, DC has now been able to catch up with Marvel. With that said, here are the movies that are confirmed to be in the new DC Cinematic Universe.
Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice
On March 25 of this year, the Caped Crusader (Ben Affleck) will fight the Man of Steel (Henry Cavill). Two trailers have already been released, revealing some new details of the film, including the main villain, a Knightmare sequence, and the debut of the Amazonian Princess, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). The film is also expected to feature cameos from Justice League members such as Aquaman (Jason Mamoa), the Flash (Ezra Miller), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
On August 5th of this year, audiences will be introduced to a new kind of comic book movie. Instead of a heroic team of superhumans working together to save the world from a global threat, a villainous lineup of criminals have to work together to save the world from an even more villainous threat. Task Force X, otherwise known as the Suicide Squad, must do what the government agency named A.R.G.U.S. directs them to do, or else the explosive on back of their necks goes off. The band of villains include Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney).
On June 23rd in 2017, the Amazonian Warrior Princess is finally getting her own solo live action movie. This will make history as the first major female superhero lead, beating Marvel's 2019 Captain Marvel movie. The movie is in the beginning stages of production, with a few new shots of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and new set pictures of Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman's human love interest. The movie is said to take place in a wartime era, making the role of Wonder Woman more influential. This would also make sense because Steve Trevor is a war pilot and spy in the comics.
On November 17th in 2017, the Justice League will finally make their live action cinematic debut. History will be made as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern, and Cyborg finally join forces to defeat an unknown enemy. Production has started, but unfortunately no set footage has been released. Although most of the League members will be featured in Batman vs Superman, all of them will definitely have a major role in the Justice League movie.
On March 23rd in 2018, the Scarlet Speedster makes his live action debut on the big screen. Although Grant Gustin makes a great Flash on the CW, Ezra Miller will be portraying the Crimson Comet in the Flash solo movie. This is only possible because unlike Marvel, DC shows like the Flash and Arrow don't affect the cinematic universe. This allows shows like Arrow and the Flash to expand their plot without future films being jeopardized.
On July 27th in 2018, the King of Atlantis splashes into theaters, forever reshaping people's biased opinions on the hero. After this movie is released, people will realize how wrong they were when they said that Aquaman is a worthless hero. Although Jason Mamoa's portrayal of the Marine Marvel is quite the contrary from what the original comics showed us, Aquaman surely will have some amount of orange and green like his original costume. This movie may also inspire Marvel to debut its own King of the Seven Seas, Namor the Submariner, into an Avengers movie one day.
On April 5th in 2019, the World's Mightiest Mortal will make his first debut in a live action film. Unfortunately, DC hasn't cast anybody for the role of Shazam. On the bright side, DC has casted Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for the role of Shazam's enemy: Black Adam. In an interview with Dwayne Johnson, Johnson had revealed that Black Adam will appear much earlier than in 2019. This means that Black Adam will play a role in an earlier movie. Wonder Woman perhaps?
Justice League 2
On June 19th in 2019, the World's Greatest Superheroes join together once again to save the universe. This time, with a new hero: Shazam. Who knows what nefarious foe the Justice League will have to face! Speculations say that the main antagonist could be Brainiac, Darkseid, and even a returning Doomsday! I think that the Justice League movie may include the Bizarro League.
On April 3rd in 2020, the Cybernetic Superhero makes his way into the theaters. You may be wondering: WHERE'S MARTIAN MANHUNTER? Well, he's probably not going to be featured in any Justice League films because in the New 52 comics, Cyborg replaces Martian Manhunter's spot in the Justice League. Also, Supergirl already featured Martian Manhunter on their show so that sort of makes it harder for Jonn Jonzz to appear in a live action film. This film would have made history as the first live action black superhero, but instead that title goes to Marvel's 2017 Black Panther movie.
Green Lantern Corps
On June 19th in 2020, the Emerald Guardians of the Galaxy make their first appearance. Even though the terrible 2011 Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan showed audiences some of the Green Lantern Corps members, this movie will actually expand the idea that the Green Lantern Corps is an entire intergalactic police force. Only two Green Lanterns have actually been confirmed for this movie: Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Rumors say that Tyrese Gibson has already been cast as John Stewart, and Gibson did actually say that he has met with Warner Bros. to talk about the role. Personally, I want to see other Lantern Corps, like the Red Lanterns or the Orange Lanterns.
Unknown Batman Solo Movie
There is no determined date for this Batman solo film, but we do know is that Ben Affleck will be directing the film. There are also rumors saying that Deadshot will be the main villain.
Man of Steel 2?
There has been a confirmed Superman solo movie, yet like Batman's solo movie, there is no determined release date. Maybe in this solo film we will get introduced to a cinematic Supergirl!
