Everyone has their time. Whether you're Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Julianne Moore, Reese Witherspoon, or even the superbly talented, Jennifer Lawrence, it matters not. Eventually, one must either willingly step out of the spotlight or risk the wretched fate of being pushed out of the way when the future comes knocking. Jennifer Lawrence - no mystery to her, may I remind you - will one day suffer the same fate of all those who came before her.
Just kidding... We all know JLaw and the rest of those amazing women are going to be around for a long, long, long, long time. But, that hasn't stopped me from putting together a list of the next generation of ladies who will most likely follow in Jennifer Lawrence's (and the rest) magnificent footsteps. Meaning, they're not going to take any crap from anyone.
Let's take a look at who I picked, shall we?
Star of 'Pitch Perfect', My Leading Lady of Comedy:
She's hilarious, she's humble and she's all around ecstatic to please her many adoring fans all over the world. Rebel Wilson has been selected as one of the faces of tomorrow for her sheer impressive abilities to poke fun at herself, make any situation bright, tell a great joke, and be a role model - for anyone - worth looking up to. Her return as Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect 3 will be a welcome treat for all of her adoring fans. Now, if only we were still getting her awesome sauce addition in Kung Fu Panda 3, that'd be something too, but hey, I digress.
Star of 'Orphan Black' and New Wave Badass:
Tatiana Maslany has the sort of look that only a few can claim. A sort of Ellen Ripley/Sigourney Weaver type of vibe. Her stint as the many, many faces on the hit BBC America series, Orphan Black, has assured the audiences of the world that she's here to stay and to slay. Without a doubt, Tatiana is able to do what, I think, no other actress is or has been able to. She brings personality, charm, and distinction to each character she portrays on Orphan Black, leaving me breathless when I finish an episode and realize just how many times she jumped from sister to sister.
Star of 'Harry Potter', Unstoppable Voice of Our Youth:
We've all been privy to watch as the adorable Emma Watson grew up right before our eyes, during her decade-long stint with the Harry Potter franchise. And now that her time with the beloved series is over, her career is only set to leap momentously and triumphant into the future. With upcoming roles in the crime drama, Colonia, the drama/thriller Regression alongside Ethan Hawk, and the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Disney's Beauty and The Beast, Emma Watson is mere years away from stepping up the stage to claim her very own series of golden statuettes.
Oscar Nominee and Future Icon of 'Star Wars' Franchise:
Felicity Jones will be another face to watch out for when it comes to future Oscar shows. Her role in The Theory of Everything really opened audiences eyes to the enormous amount of talent she has hidden in her extensive work of supporting characters. I think there can be no coincidence that two of the films I'm most excited for in 2016 star this incredible woman. With Star Wars' spin-off, Rogue One, recently named as the most anticipated film of 2016 and the teaser trailer for A Monster Calls sending shivers down my spine... it's going to be a fantastic year for Felicity Jones and for all the people who can't wait to see what she does next.
Current 'Star Wars' Star and Pilot Extraordinaire:
I think this one is a given, am I right? After the debacle that was Natalie Portman's performance in George Lucas's last Star Wars trilogy, fans were unsure what to expect from newcomer Daisy Ridley. But boy oh boy, did she prove all the nay-sayers wrong. Daisy Ridley is a perfect combination of beauty, charisma, intelligence, and brawn that the future of gender equality will need in Hollywood. And with Star Wars co-star Carrie Fisher looking out for her, I have no doubt that her future will be as bright as the iconic franchise she is now helping carry.
Queen of the Geeks, Star of 'Game of Thrones' + 'X-Men':
I have to admit I was a little unsure about this one when I first started watching Game of Thrones. Her performance as Sansa Stark/Bolton in the early episodes of the first season - the naive brat with the nasty attitude - seemed all too convincing to be entirely fake. However, as the hit series has progressed and her character has been given the chance to strip away the dalliances and fantasy notions of youth, she has grown into a character I root for every time a new episode comes on TV. Her future role as Jean Grey in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, taking the heavy reigns from the magnificent Famke Janssen, has also helped in increasing my appetite to see this young woman strive in her career.
(Disney's) Marvel's First Solo Leading Lady:
Marvel should be a little embarrassed it took them this long to get a female superhero her own starring role. But holy crap, has Krysten Ritter taken that series to a whole new level I didn't think was possible for the comic book company. It has broken every expectation I had for what they were capable of and that's in large part due to the performance of Krysten Ritter. With such positive reception coming in so soon after the first season premiered on Netflix, I expect Ritter's plate to be quite full from now on.
'Wonder Woman' Warrior of Themyscira:
Superheroes are all the trends right now. Everything must be about the next best superhero franchise. Marvel is currently leading the pack with their massive Avengers franchise, but they've fallen behind when it comes to a move you'd think they would've been all out ready to tackle: The first solo female superhero film franchise. But DC Comics wasn't and they've chosen the perfect story to bring to the silver screen: Wonder Woman. And although we were all a bit hesitant at first when they announced their casting choice for the iconic female character, it seems that Gal Gadot has gone above and beyond the call of duty to fill the shoes left by the amazing Lynda Carter.
The Best Is Yet To Come, Star of 'Suicide Squad'
Not many could go toe to toe with Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith on screen and still come out with an incredible performance. However, Margot Robbie has managed to do both and will continue to keep her A-list male co-stars in awe for her many, sure to be super successful, hits like the highly-anticipated Suicide Squad where she will play the iconic Clown Princess of Crime, Harley Quinn and Tarzan where she will tackle the role of Jane Porter opposite Alexanders Skarsgard.
But Wait! There's More!
With women making such excellent strides in the entertainment industry, I believe we should all be on the look out for some amazing resurgences and surprise showcases from the following ladies:
Her fate was left wide open for a return in both Salem and Ash vs Evil Dead. And with the looming Xena reboot on the rise, Lucy Lawless is definitely one to be on the watch out for.
Michelle Pfeiffer's had a bit of a rough patch lately with disappointments in supposed blockbusters The Family and Dark Shadows, but upcoming roles in HBO's The Wizard of Lies and the indie-drama Beat-up Little Seagull are certainly setting the stage for a major Julianne Moore-like comeback for Michelle.
This X-Men veteran won't let the recasting a younger actress slow her down. Famke Janssen's future releases, including indie films Jack of The Red Hearts and This Is Your Death, big screen comedy Going Under alongside Bruce Willis and John Goodman and a recurring role on the ABC hit series How To Get Away With Murder, have fans carefully biding their time until this under-appreciated actress finally gets her due.
Lady Gaga has stunned audiences with her performance on American Horror Story: Hotel. With such excellent reception, an invitation to join AHS's sixth season and a new album on the way, Lady Gaga will be most certainly a performer worth keeping a watchful eye on.
Sarah Michelle Gellar
There will always be room for SMG on our TV screens. Always. This is Buffy we're talking about here! It's only a matter of time before something tantalizing and unforgettable comes her way that brings her back into our living rooms. Fans of Gellar's are no strangers to playing the waiting game. We're more than ready to give her all the time it takes.
Don't Worry, I Didn't Forget Them.
The Women of The New 'Ghostbusters'
A great team. A great director. Superb comedic talent. What else is there to say? The combination of SNL's Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, SNL Alum and Bridesmaids scribe Kristen Wiig, and Reigning Champ of all things hilarious, Melissa McCarthy...
And of course!
Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie!
The return of Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley to their iconic roles of the alcoholic, drug addled, fashion and trend addicts Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone is sure to be one of the best-received films of 2016. Maybe we'll even get another season out of it.
2016's gonna be awesome.
The future's looking pretty bright for women in entertainment. Just saying.
