With Disney starting to remake a whole lot of their animated classics into live-action films, I started wondering what non-Disney animated films would work as live-action- and of course The Road To El Dorado sprung to mind. It is a fantastic story about two friends that found the golden city of fabled legend, and had to pretend to be gods to survive. Who doesn't want to see that on the big screen again? Of course, to bring this to the screen in all the glory it deserves, you've got to have the right cast! Luckily, I've scoured the world to bring together the perfect fan cast! Check it out below after one of my favourite clips from the film!
Oscar Isaac As Tulio!
There's no question that Oscar Isaac should be Tulio! He's a charismatic leading man with the right look and the perfect blend of humour and wit needed for this sharp, scheming con-man. His role as Poe Dameron has shown us that he is able to pull off a lovable character, and his roles in X-Men: Apocalypse and Ex Machina prove he's one of the most diverse guys around in Hollywood at the moment!
Eric Christian Olsen As Miguel!
Anybody who has seen an episode of NCIS: LA will understand that Deeks has got to play Miguel! His wise cracking ways in NCIS prove he's the perfect man to play this lovable rogue. He's been in a huge number of action scenes in the show, allowing him to gain the experience he needs to be taking on the army of Cortes if the need arises!
Rosabell Laurenti Sellers As Chel!
Chel is twice as smart as anybody around her, she is underestimated and often forgotten about. Someone else who is passed off as being less dangerous than they really are is Tyene Sand in Game of Thrones, the youngest of the Sand Snakes of Dorne. Played by Rosabell Laurenti-Sellers, Tyene is a brilliant strategist, and is much more dangerous than she looks. The scene where she flirts with Bronn in season 5 perfectly shows her sultry danger and allure, which would all be needed for the role of Chel!
Javier Bardem As Tzekel Kan!
Tzekel Kan is an untrustworthy priest from El Dorado, who is as cynical as he is insane. You can't deny this sounds rather similar to Silva, the James Bond villain that Javier Bardem played in Skyfall. He was cold, calculating, and incredibly intelligent. Bardem has shown over his long career that he can do just about anything, from the quiet crazy of Anton Chigurh in No Country For Old Men, to the seductive, intelligent painter Juan Antonio in Vicky Christina Barcelona. He could easily pull off the dark priest who will betray someone as quickly as you can say "For the watch".
Danny Trejo As Chief!
Chief is the kind leader of the tribe in El Dorado, and is a brilliant character, who is much smarter than he looks, and as happy as he is large. While Danny Trejo would play a slightly thinner version of the character, it would be hard to find someone as large as the Chief. Trejo is excellent at playing anything from the crazed mercenary in Machete, to the lovable uncle figure in Spy Kids. He wouldn't have an issue with playing this man, who is both a fierce protector of El Dorado as well as the father figure to the entire community.
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson As Cortes!
Cortes is a mostly silent figure, who stalks the jungles attempting to find and take El Dorado for himself. While he doesn't speak a lot, he also doesn't need to. His savagery extends to such lengths that when the real Cortes reached the new world, he burned all of his ships so that his men knew there was no turning back. The perfect man to be able to terrify with a stare is the giant himself, Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane from Game of Thrones. This man is known for his brutal murdering, raping and general terrorising of pretty much anybody Cersei Lannister doesn't like. Hafbor has been in the top three for the World's Strongest Man contest twice, that should tell you the sheer power he could bring to the role of this hulking giant!
So there it is! The Road to El Dorado is a classic, and one of my favourite animated films of all time, so obviously if a live-action remake were to be done, the cast would need to be at a level such as the one above to truly do the original film justice!
