WARNING: Spoilers for 'The Walking Dead' TV and comic series ahead.
No! We just got Glenn back, but with more and more casting news, The Walking Dead seem to be putting nail after nail into his coffin!
Back in September, Nikita and Salem star Xander Berkeley was officially cast in The Walking Dead Season 6. However the show kept his character a complete mystery, not revealing who he would play, except to confirm that he would not be Negan (a role which officially belongs to Jeffrey Dean Morgan). TV Line did however report that the character shared some similar characteristics of Negan:
Namely his narcissism, huge ego and self-preservation. He’s also said to relish the superiority that comes with being in control, but he plays it off with a car salesman-type charm.
So who is Berkeley playing? It has been officially confirmed that his character on The Walking Dead will be none other than Gregory.
Fans of the comics will know Gregory well as he is the one responsible for turning Maggie and Glenn over to Negan, who is in turn responsible for Glenn's gruesome death! So it makes sense Negan and Gregory share characteristics as they are linked in a pretty important way.
Gregory is the leader of the Hilltop clan and is described as a coward and a nightmare to Rick. He basically gets on everyone's bad side, specifically Paul 'Jesus' Monroe's, even before committing the horrid act of sacrificing Maggie and Glenn for his own self-preservation.
This is even more bad news for Glenn fans who are just catching their breath after being tricked into believing that he had died, only to discover he had actually escaped. Many fans, despite being aware of Glenn's fate in the comics, still believe the show may not 100% follow suit and actually kill him off, due to being such a fan favorite. Still, The Walking Dead has proven time and time again they are not afraid of killing anyone off, and that no one, fan favorites and all, is safe. With the casting of Negan and Gregory, it's just not looking good.
Xander's character, though being introduced mid-season, will be a permanent fix on The Walking Dead as his deal has a series-regular option for next season!
'The Walking Dead' Season 6 returns February 14th, 2016 on AMC!
