Backroad Anthem lead singer Craig Strickland has been found dead after being missing for a week following a duck hunting trip gone wrong in Oklahoma. He was 29 years old.
The country singer was first declared missing on Monday afternoon after his friend, 22-year-old Chase Morland, was found dead in Kew Lake and the boat that he was sharing with Strickland was found capsized.
According to concerned Oklahoma authorities, there was evidence that the missing person was not in possession a floatation device and a rescue effort was launched in an effort to locate Strickland.
Tragically, their efforts were in vain and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirmed that they had recovered the singer's body and that his family had been notified of the discovery.
According to Strickland's wife, Helen Strickland, the cause of death was hypothermia. She wrote on Instagram that:
"The night of the accident he had fought his way out of the water and up a hill before the stages of hypothermia set in. He experienced no pain in his final moments and simply felt like he was falling asleep. They found him lying in the shape of a cross looking up to his Father."
Poignantly, Strickland's deceased friend Morland unknowingly foreshadowed his own demise in a Tweet making light of the risks entering a winter storm in order to hunt entailed.
Craig's wife, Helen Strickland, updated fans about the search efforts throughout, but sadly the only survivor was Craig's dog.
Helen also shared a heartbreaking video of Craig expressing his love for her that he had made for the day of their wedding.
The emotional video was captioned:
"On the day of our wedding Craig had me watch a video he had made to tell me how much he loved me. I am so thankful for technology in this moment because I will always have this. I watched this privately prior to walking down the aisle, and so now I want to share this small excerpt with all of you. Thank you @stylistmeganfarmer for helping him make this. I will cherish it for ever.
"Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. Psalms 116:15"
Thank you Lord for sharing #craigstrickland with me. You allowed me to borrow him on this earth, but he was always Yours. I will forever cherish our year of marriage. This was truly the type of man you were and will always be remembered as. I love you Craig Michael."
Our thoughts are with Craig's family during this difficult time.
