Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally arrived in December and has been met with a hugely positive reception. Consequently, many theories are arising to help explain the weird and wonderful elements of The Force Awakens; but what about the epic craziness in Star Wars novels and comic books throughout the years?
I've delved into the dark side of Star Wars lore and uncovered some of the strangest Jedi from throughout the known galaxy. I'm pretty sure those that were once canon have lost that status under our new Disney overloads, but their stories cannot be forgotten!
Remember, these are non-canon! But let's have a look!
1. N'Kata Del Gormo
N'Kata Del Gormo was a Jedi Master of the Hysalrian species. When stranded on a seemingly abandoned planet N'Kata came across a strange young alien and his human companion. This young alien was named Yoda, and joined the Jedi order along with his human companion. That's right, N'Kata trained the a young Yoda who eventually became Grand Master of the Jedi Council.
Thon was a four-legged Jedi Master who looked a lot like a styracosaurus... but with a beard. Jedi Master Thon had an extensive knowledge of the Force, which he used to exterminate the dark side, before living out his life in isolation.
Jedi Master Ooroo was a member of the Celegian species and looked a lot like a floating brain. Ooroo's species breathed a gas known as cyanogen, which he later used to slay a group of Sith, sacrificing his own life and becoming a legendary hero.
4. Beldorion the Hutt
It's an unpopular opinion, but I think the Hutts are pretty awesome; meaning I think this big guy is spectacular. Beldorion the Hutt was a Jedi turned Sith who used the Force to stay physically powerful 400 years before the rise of the Empire. After falling to the dark side and establishing himself as the undisputed ruler of Nam Chorios, Beldorion was eventually slain by the Jedi Knight Leia Organa Solo.
5. Tyvokka the Wookiee
Tyvokka was a respected wookie Jedi Knight on the Jedi High Council. A being of incredible strength and wisdom, Tyvokka had a remarkable ability to sense the future and was often called upon to broker peace agreements. He was unfortunately killed by a droid shortly before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
6. The Iron Knight[s]
The Iron Knights were force sensitive members of the Shard species, who required droid bodies in order to interact with the physical world. These Shard Jedi would often occupy Juggernaut war droids, FLTCH series droids, and Uulshos Justice droids as well as adopting the names of their preferred lightsaber crystals.
7. Skippy The Droid
You might recognise Skippy as the droid from Star Wars: A New Hope with a bad motivator. Well in the wider Star Wars universe it is revealed that Skippy is actually a powerfully force sensitive droid with a talent for mental manipulation and force persuasion. Skippy set off an internal explosion, ensuring Luke's uncle Owen purchased R2-D2 instead, allowing Luke, Leia and R2-D2 to fulfil their destinies.
8. Jedi Ewok
An unnamed Jedi Ewok existed around the time of the New Republic, and attacked a group of Sanyassans (seen above) as they were trying to enslave a young Ewok. Unusual for an Ewok, this furry little guy possessed the mental fortitude and intelligence to become a Jedi and can be seen wielding a blue-bladed lightsaber along with traditional Jedi robes.
Those Ewok's get up to some crazy adventures, don't they?
Star Wars is rewriting the record books and we're due for at least five more movies, are you as excited as I am?
