It's always fascinating to get inside the mind of a crazy person, to see how they actually think about normal things so strangely. Margot Robbie has had a unique chance to do this by taking on the role of notorious psychopath Harley Quinn in upcoming DC film, Suicide Squad.
So it is already pretty clear that Harley is a maniac, and it's mostly because of The Joker (Jared Leto) that she has become this way. But while we have heard plenty about how Jared Leto got really into character for his role... maybe even a little TOO into character for his role, we haven't heard a lot about what Margot did to prepare herself for the live action debut of Harley Quinn.
Until now, of course, because Margot got talking to Cineplex recently, and spoke about the character.
“Harley is creepy, violent, crazy — all of the things that I aspire to be."
"No. It’s the fun of living vicariously through someone who is doing things that I would never do in real life."
She also spoke about her co-star Will Smith, who she previously worked with on Focus last year.
“I enjoyed working with Will so, so much that I was overjoyed when I heard that we would be working together again.”
“I actually texted him when I heard he was in negotiations to be in Suicide Squad and kept peer-pressuring him, ‘You’d better be taking this movie!’ He obviously signed on for his own reasons, but I was so incredibly happy that we got to do Round Two. He’s awesome on set and awesome off set. He’s just a really, really good person.”
Always good to know that Will Smith is a nice guy. We know that the film is about villains, and with such a serious looking trailer you think it would be a moody kind of atmosphere on set, not least because of Jared Leto and his Joker-esque antics. But apparently not, as Margot said in another interview several months ago:
"I guess the one common denominator is we're all bad guys, it just makes everything more fun that way. The scenes are more interesting I feel, when you just don't know how the characters are going to react, especially Harley, who's absolutely nuts... she's either going to kill you or laugh and give you a hug."
It's good to know that they all had fun working on the film. I, for one, am certain it is going to be enjoyable to watch in the cinema come August 5th.
