If The Penguin's dad in the new episodes of Gotham looks a little familiar, that's because you HAVE seen him before... in Tim Burton's 1992 Batman Returns! Any Batman fan will surely remember the scene which brought Oswald Cobblepot i.e. The Penguin into being.

The actor playing Cobblepot Sr. is, of course, Paul Reubens, who shot to fame as Pee Wee Herman. From Pee Wee Herman to the dark side of the DC Universe... read into that career progression what you will!

Gotham exec Danny Cannon shared this pic of Paul Reubens and The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) on Twitter.

The casting was originally announced at Comic-Con 2015 when Robin Lord Taylor said calmly:

"We just found out that I do have a father and he will be showing up very soon and he will be played by none other than PAUL REUBENS! AKA PEE-WEE HERMAN, IS PLAYING MY DAD! What the hell! Oh my god!"
Terrifying.
Terrifying.

It'll be interesting to see how Cobblepot's father affects the plotline of Gotham.

Dumas killed his mom in the first portion of the season, so Penguin's dad will have extra parental responsibilities to take on — or shirk, as the case may be.
