MTV's [Teen Wolf](tag:721002) has been going strong since 2011, garnering more and more fans with each passing season. Whilst we undeniably love our main character Scott McCall (Tyler Posey), it's Crystal Reed's character, Allison, who has remained a fan-favourite, even after her untimely demise in Season 3.
Since then, regardless of her character's absence from the show for nearly two full seasons, fans have shown nothing but love for Allison. We hoped against all odds that Reed would return to the role as the badass, arrow-wielding huntress we all know and adore.
With a new year comes new gifts, and Jeff Davis has the biggest one in store for Teen Wolf fans. In an exclusive with Buzzfeed, Davis confirms that Crystal Reed is indeed making a triumphant return to the popular MTV series.
Just not as Allison Argent.
Instead, the 30-year-old actress and fan favourite will be taking a page out of Nina Dobrev's book, and playing her own ancestor. She will be portraying the first in her family's line, Marie-Jeanne Valet.
Due to air on February 23rd, the episode, not unlike The Vampire Diaries and Nina Dobrev's character Amara (the first in the Petrova Doppleganger line), will make heavy use of flashbacks, taking viewers back to the 1700's. Marie-Jeanne Valet, is described as a "peasant girl" by show-runner and writer of the episode Jeff Davis. She was the first of her family to delve into hunting, when she "fashioned a bayonet onto a spear", unconsciously creating a legacy of fearlessness and badassery for her family.
Reed has previously spoken of her love for the character of Allison many times, even going so far as to change her lines during her last scene. The original script had her confessing her love for and to Isaac Lahey (Daniel Sharman) - a Beta Werewolf and erstwhile member of Scott's pack - in her final moments. However, knowing it simply wasn't true to her character, Reed instead altered her lines, uttering her feelings for her first true love, in a heartbreaking scene that continues to cause ALL the feels.
Speaking to Buzzfeed, Reed talked about how Davis easily managed to convince her to return to the show.
He was definitely playing into my emotions. He knows that I have been dying to do a period piece and I love getting my head around different accents and different cultures. He didn’t even have much of a character worked out other than it was based on the Maid of Gévaudan. And I knew the legend, so before really knowing anything further, I said yes.
Kira Yukimira - Kitsune / Clumsy Badass, Lydia Martin - Banshee / Super Intelligent Fearless Warrior, Malia - Beta Were-Coyote / Clueless Teenager, Allison Argent - Huntress / Everyone's Favourite Character. (pictured above)
A show that already champions strong female characters, Teen Wolf is taking another step in the right direction bringing Reed back, and more importantly, introducing the character of Marie-Jeanne. It would've been so easy to have the first Argent be a strong male character. The head of the family and a bloodthirsty hunter. In borrowing from history and putting a Teen Wolf spin on it, fans have yet another strong female character to look up to. And of course, we get to see tons more of Crystal Reed.
Valet is another female warrior and I think one of the great things Crystal does is she gives our viewers, especially our young female viewers, someone to look up to. - Jeff Davis
Allison was always one of my favourite characters on the show, and although Kira came in as our next kick-ass protagonist - a Katana-wielding Kitsune with a little lightning. In my opinion Reed's exit from the show left a void. Her return, although in the form of a flashback, will almost feel like having the old pack back together (minus Isaac, Ethan and Aiden *sob*), and that's something I'm 100% looking forward to.
