"Tonight I'm going to rock this place... shake it to the ground now!"
No, this is not a joke.
This is real life. Star Wars: The Force Awakens officially opens in theaters in China today, and as such, they have released an official pop song paired with a matching music video to coincide with the film. Yes, you heard right, a pop song.
Now, in America, this would be absolutely unacceptable of course. Fans would have a field day about Disney being greedy by trying to appeal to an audience that doesn't even care or have an investment in the Star Wars series, while pushing aside the one that does. In China however, pop music holds a completely different place in their society, basically a huge one, so this makes sense for them in trying to bring in huge Chinese box office numbers . That's really the only explanation I have for this folks.
The song is titled The Inner Force and is performed by one of China's HOTTEST pop stars, LuHan. LuHan was once a part of China's biggest boy band, EXO, before he left and branched off into a solo career. Well now he's really hit it big singing the title track for the Chinese Force Awakens release! The video goes between shots of the film and LuHan while song sounds like the love child of Lil Jon and One Direction, touting lines such as:
"Drive your breath with laser light..."
So without further adieu, you really just need to watch it yourself, then let's chat.
If you are like me, there is NOTHING in life that could have prepared you for that. OK, now let's break it down, LuHan style.
So what I take from it is LuHan is a Jedi, and we are not prepared for his wrath, and if we ask to see his powers, we better be freaking ready. Oh, and he's the leading actor because he's feeling the force. Do NOT forget that people!
Literally anyone else feel like going to the club now and dancing into the next Galaxy? I know I do!
More importantly though, can someone PLEASE TELL ME WHAT "Wanna feel that 808..." MEANS?!
SERIOUSLY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD?! I do not compute!
Well thanks to Urban Dictionary I have discovered the true meaning of "808", and it's really not as big of a deal as I made it. It is a reference to making obscene amounts of noise with a drum, or sometimes Hawaii, in most hip-hop songs:
1. The penal code for disturbing the peace. Refers to the sound of bass from stereos.
2. An 808 refers to a drum machine called a Roland TR-808.
3. Sometimes a reference to Hawaii. 808 is Hawaii's area code.
"IM BACK WITH A 808 CAUSE IM BOSSY" - Kelis
"We be going boom like an 808"- Blaque
There is so much more about this song and music video I don't understand, but it is slowly creeping into my soul like the dark side of the force with every unnecessary view I give it. Something tells me Yoda would be rolling over in his grave after seeing this. If, like me however, you feel the need for more LuHan in your life, I leave you with a link to LuHan's youtube page.
The link you must click, calls to you the the dark side does.
