Mike's Horror Den

When I first saw the trailer for The Forest it looked like it had a great creep factor. Especially, the fact that the Aokigahara forest is a real place. The suicide forest in Japan, at the base of Mt. Fuji is a beautiful place with a dark presence.

In this film, a young woman travels to the haunted forest to try and find her twin sister. Dismissing all warnings by locals, she finds a guide and sets off into the forest. She is told that the forest is capable of manipulating her and bringing her worst fears to life. So should she believe what she's hearing and seeing or is the forest trying to push her to end her life? Will she find her sister and more importantly, will she make it out alive?

This movie is a bit of a slow burn, but it's more to build tension. I thought the scares could have been a bit better. The film included many of the usual jump scares, but there was a very good creep factor once they enter the forest. You feel like you are in a place you shouldn't be. Taylor Kinney plays his character very well, leading Natalie Dormer into the forest. He's a very good up and coming actor. Overall this is a descent horror film, giving us a good start to 2016. I do want to ask everyone, Who would visit the Aokigahara Forest? Please comment your answer below.
