It appears that Galadriel herself, Cate Blanchett, is heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it's been confirmed by Hulk himself.

Back in December 2015, Entertainment Online reported that Cate Blanchett was in negotiations to join the apocalyptic Thor: Ragnarok.

At first, it wasn't clear what role the Australian Academy Award winner would be cast as, but now it looks like we have confirmation.

Following the news that Blanchett was in final negotiations for the Chris Hemsworth led sequel, ET asked Mark Ruffalo about his co-star.

Speaking to ET at the BAFTA Awards Season Tea Party on Saturday, here's what Dr. Banner had to say about the speculation:

“I’m so thrilled. I saw her at the Governors’ banquet here and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, ‘Please, please, please make this work!’ She’s just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting.”

Cate Blanchett herself responded to the speculation that last month she had signed on for an "unidentified badass female role" in the upcoming Marvel comic book adaptation.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actress joked about taking over the role from Hemsworth.

Kimmel - "I heard you were going to be in the new Thor movie. Is that true?"
Blanchett - "Yes, Chris Hemsworth is busy, so I've been working out,"
Kimmel - "Is that confirmation, or are you dodging the question?"
Blanchett - "No, I'm not dodging the question! They're just substituting one Australian for another. Gender equality! Why can't you have a female Thor?"
Kimmel - "You have to understand how important these comic books are to be people. Well, listen. If you're going to be in Thor you have to be ready to fight."

So who would she play?

Although we now have a Female Thor in the comic book world, Chris Hemsworth has already signed up to reprise his role as the iconic Norse God. That thus leaves the question of what role Blanchett will undertake, and as it is allegedly that of a villain, who will it be?

Fans have already started speculating, naming two fan favorites as the forerunners...

Hela

Hela would be a great villain to face off against Thor on screen. Already a frequent foe of Thor in the comic books, Hela is the Asgardian goddess of death based off the Norse goddess, Hel.

Like all Asgardians, Hela possesses superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility and durability. However, what gives her an edge is her cloak. When worn, the cloak makes her stronger than most of her race, allowing her to even engage in hand to hand combat with Thor.

Amora the Enchantress

Like Hela, Amora was another of Thor's greatest enemies. Another Asgardian, Amora also possesses superhuman strength, speed, stamina, and durability yet prefers to avoid physical combat.

Instead, Amora is most dangerous through her manipulation and control of magic. Described as one of the most powerful sorcerers in all of Asgard, Amora has been known to use her sorcery to enhance her natural beauty and allure, even enchanting her lips so that by kissing virtually any man she can make him her slave.

It looks like we're set to see a truly badass female villain enter the MCU, and quite frankly, I can't wait...

Thor: Ragnarok is expected to hit screens July 28, 2017. Directed by Taika Waititi, the film will see Chris Hemsworth reprise his role as the Norse thunder God, Thor, alongside Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk.
