Here we go again!
One of the most discussed characters in the Harry Potter series is Severus Snape, and whether or not he's good or bad. On one side you have the argument that he protected Harry for all those years, and on the other side there's the minor detail that he bullied an innocent child because he had an unhealthy obsession with his dead mother.
J.K. Rowling weighs in on the debate
In honor of Snape's birthday, Miss. Rowling took to twitter to share some thoughts on the matter:
This is not the first time she has given her opinion about Snape's ambiguous character, and the author herself is just as conflicted as the fandom. In a previous tweet from November, 2015, Rowling wrote:
"Snape is all grey. You can’t make him a saint: he was vindictive & bullying. You can’t make him a devil: he died to save the Wizarding World."
It seems as if this debate will never die out, and I think we all have to accept that Snape's personal choices will remain one of the mysteries of modern literature. Here's a clip of Harry's first meeting with Snape for you to enjoy while you ponder the conundrum.
