The second Star Wars spin off film to hit theaters is the story of a young Han Solo, set between Episodes III & IV, so unfortunately, Harrison Ford cannot don his classic vest and return to the role for this film, a new actor is needed to fill those boots.
The shortlist of actors up for the role has been revealed. Sources tell Variety that after testing thousands of young actors for the part, Lucasfilm has narrowed the search down to Miles Teller (Whiplash), Ansel Elgort (The Fault In Our Stars), Dave Franco (Neighbors), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age Of Extinction), Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad), Logan Lerman (Fury), Emory Cohen (Brooklyn) and Blake Jenner (Everybody Wants Some).
I'm a ginormous Star Wars fan, so obviously I'm hesitant about anyone other than Harrison Ford playing the character of Han Solo. This is a handful of terrific young actors, all who have done some great work, but I don't see any of them as the scruffy looking nerf herder that we've come to know.
My pick out of this shortlist was Logan Lerman, he's a great talent (see The Perks Of Being A Wallflower and Fury for confirmation). But after looking a bit closer at the list, I think Scott Eastwood could do a very good job in the role, he looks the part and he's certainly got acting chops, that would be my pick anyway. Eastwood is the oldest out of the bunch at 29. The most talented out of the bunch is probably Miles Teller who delivered one hell of a performance in Whiplash in 2014, I unfortunately just can't see him in the role.
Variety is saying that we could possibly see the new Han Solo in the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in a small role or possible cameo to get audiences familiar with the new actor.
The Han Solo spin off film begins shooting next January with an expected release on May 25th 2018. The film will be directed by Phil Lord & Chris Miller who have previously directed 21 & 22 Jump Street and The Lego Movie.
