Lately I have been hearing people talk about Star Wars: The Force Awakens as glorified fan fiction. This being due to the fact that George Lucas, the original creator of the franchise, was not involved. Although I understand this, I have to disagree and it is not just down to the fact that I loved episode VII. The reason that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is not to be considered big budget fan fiction is because Lawrence Kasdan helped write the thing!

Lawrence Kasdan was on the writing team for Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, arguably the two best instalments in the entire franchise. Although George Lucas devised the characters and the essentials of the fictional universe, Kasdan was one of the people that conjured up the intricacies of the fictional world that Star Wars fans love so much.

Furthermore, can't the fact that the original cast returned as the characters they made iconic reason enough? Not to mention the fact that it truly has the spirit and feel of Star Wars. The famous director may not have been on board for this one but I would say that The Force Awakens is most definitely an authentic Star Wars movie.
