So recently released a shiny new poster image as part of the official announcement about the long awaited release date for Daredevil Season 2, which is set to release this March (hurrah). Check it out below!

There's a lot going on in this image. There's characters returning from Season 1 - Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock; Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page; Elden Henson as Franklin "Foggy" Nelson; Toby Leonard Moore as the (now deceased) James Wesley; Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple; Vondie Curtis-Hall as Ben Urich; Bob Gunton as Leland Owlsley; Scott Glenn as Stick; the looming silhouette of Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin / Wilson Fisk - and sprinkled alongside are little recap and teaser images.

Unfortunately the poster image itself is not of the highest quality, so some of the pictures are difficult to make out. There is however one image that is very clear; did you notice the playing card at the bottom left of the collage?

A Playing Card; Oh Boy...

Even non-comic book fans will probably be aware that Bullseye - the psychopathic master assassin and arch enemy of Daredevil - is well known for wielding playing cards (amongst other items) as deadly weapons.

"The Man Who Never Misses", Bullseye is a master assassin and marksman, able to utilize almost anything to hit his target. In addition to being proficient in the use of bladed weapons he can also use objects like pencils and the aforementioned playing cards as a lethal weapon and he (almost) never misses his mark.

Most famously Bullseye used a playing card to take down the ninja assassin Elektra (who we'll be seeing showing up in Daredevil Season 2 portrayed by French actress Élodie Yung). After incapacitating Elektra by cutting her throat with a thrown Ace of Clubs, Bullseye kills Daredevil's lover by impaling her upon one of her own sai. Not a nice way to go.

So, Bullseye's Gonna Be In Season 2?

Well, maybe. Don't forget that Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle / Punisher is set to function as the central villain this time round, which we know as Season 2 has been described as "Daredevil vs. the Punisher" by showrunner Marco Ramirez.

Whilst Kingpin / Wilson Fisk was undeniably the central villain of Season 1 he wasn't the only one; we also had Wesley, Owlsley, Nobu, Madame Gao, Vladimir and Anatoly Ranskahov and the Hand themselves being teased. Even if Elektra operates in the villain sphere during Daredevil Season 2 there's still room to fit in more villains for Daredevil to take on.

But, Should He Be Introduced Now?

Well, if you're going to introduce one of the most dangerous and prolific of Daredevil's enemies - one who possesses an obsessive hatred of him and will stop at nothing to take him down - fitting him into Season 2 may be tricky; but not impossible.

Season 2 would work as a time to introduce Bullseye to Daredevil and the Marvel Cinematic Universe because now Elektra has been introduced. We don't yet know how long Elektra is going to stick around but - problematic issues over the trope of using the death of the female love interest as motivation for the male hero aside - her death (and subsequent resurrection) was a huge moment in Matt Murdock's life, and deeply affected the formation of the Daredevil persona; something which the TV show is still developing.

He's also got a history with the Punisher himself; Frank Castle even appears in one of Bullseye's origin stories. They run in a few times throughout their respective careers, and the assassin even loses a finger to the dangerous vigilante. Yeesh.

The villain showing up at some point soon is made more likely by the fact that Season 1 showrunner Steven DeKnight previously mentioned that he wanted to bring in both Elektra and Bullseye for Season 2; and Jason Statham was in talks last year about signing on as the crazed assassin (until those fell through).

We know Elektra is definitely appearing in Season 2, and though there hasn't been any new news about Bullseye recently that doesn't mean we're giving up hope just yet... And let's be honest, the character needs a second chance after Colin Farrell's turn in the Daredevil movie (sorry Farrell; it's not you, it's the script).

Could It Be Setting Up Season 3?

But of course the playing card could just be an Easter Egg for eagle eyed fans, a red herring or - perhaps more likely - foreshadowing for Season 3.

Season 2 of Daredevil could introduce the concept and start to flesh out the mythology of the character without actually having him show up on screen in the flesh, such as was the case with Season 3 of DC's Arrow; which teased Damien Darhk to have him set up as the big bad of Season 4 without him ever physically appearing.

In the same manner he could be introduced either in the finale or otherwise near the tail end of the season to set him up as the primary Daredevil Season 3 antagonist. Or he could be being saved for Marvel's The Defenders, which is expected to follow Daredevil Season 2, last year's fantastic Jessica Jones and the upcoming Luke Cage.

One thing is for sure though, as perhaps the most prolific of Daredevil's enemies Bullseye is pretty likely to show up at some point soon in the MCU, either in Daredevil or The Defenders. Better keep those sai close Elektra (or on second thoughts, maybe try and stay away from pointy objects...)

What do YOU think? Do you want to see Bullseye in Season 2, or should he be introduced later? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

Daredevil Season 2 is due to premiere all episodes via worldwide streaming service Netflix on March 18, 2016.
