Spoilers for 'Star Wars VII' and potentially 'Star Wars VIII' lie ahead!
Star Wars: Episode 7 has received a hugely positive reception, but what about Episode 8? Lucasfilms has already started working on the newest project, which is due for release May 26, 2017.
Disney and Lucasfilm have several huge projects lined up for the next few years. But with John Boyega readying to reprise his role as Finn, it's about time to look forward to Star Wars: Episode 8.
When interviewed by Vogue, John Boyega was asked:
"We should say "spoiler alert" before this question, but is it a relief to finally be able to talk more openly about Star Wars: The Force Awakens - you've had months of interviews where you've had to be very secretive? Did you even tell your friends and family what happens?"
The new star of Star Wars replied:
"Yes, at last! Han Solo dies, OK? He dies. Phew. It feels good. But now, we just starting work on Star Wars VIII, the next film, so I'm back to keeping secrets again."
Vogue then stated:
"Your co-star Daisy Ridley has already praised how good the script is."
To which Boyega announced:
"It's great. Much darker, but we're very excited."
This might seem like a fairly innocuous statement, however, The Force Awakens featured the newest villain brutally murdering his own father, who just happened to be one of the greatest characters in science fiction. Simply, how dark is the next movie going to be that Boyega felt the need to say, "much darker"?
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has already been criticized for being too similar to A New Hope. Is it possible that the follow up to TFA could be a much darker movie similar to The Empire Strikes Back, which was significantly darker than A New Hope?
Moreover, could we lose another protagonist in Star Wars Episode 8?
