There might be a constant stream of aspiring actors desperately clamoring to break into the industry, but what about the ones who made it to the top and realized it wasn't for them?

Below is a selection of some actors who retired for reasons varying from falling out of love with the craft to woodwork and old age, but who would you most like to see gracing the cinema screen once more?

1. Sean Connery

Sample Movies: Best known for being Bond, Connery's impressive portfolio spans everything from The Avengers to Highlander.

Last Role: Connery's last credited role was voicing Sir Billi in the animated kids movie Guardian of the Highlands in 2012.

Widely regarded as the best Bond we have ever seen. Connery retired due to his advancing age and his last major movie role was all the way back in 2003 in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

2. Jack Nicholson

Sample Movies: Probably best known for The Shining, Nicholson's Oscar wins were for As Good as It Gets, Terms of Endearment and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Last Role: Nicholson last appeared in How Do You Know back in 2003.

Three-time Oscar winner Jack Nicholson isn't officially done with acting, but he will only put himself in the spotlight for a role that grabs him. He explained:

"The movie business is the greatest business but I only want to do films that move people, films about emotions and people.”

Luckily our wishes will be coming true as Nicholson will return for the American remake of Toni Erdmann at some point in the future.

3. Rick Moranis

Sample Movies: Ghostbusters and Honey I Shrunk the Kids.

Last Role: Moranis provided a voice for Brother Bear 2 in 2006.

Moranis had an 18 year hiatus from acting when his wife tragically died of breast cancer and he hasn't appeared in a live-action film since, although he has provided voice-over work.

4. Amanda Bynes

Sample Movies: What a Girl Wants, Hairspray and Easy A.

Last Role: Amanda's last role was in Easy A alongside Emma Stone in 2010.

An incredibly talented comic actor, Bynes has retired from acting aged just 23 after she decided that her heart wasn't in it anymore. She Tweeted:

"I don't love acting anymore, so I've stopped doing it"

Byne's has struggled with mental health issues in the past but she is now concentrating her efforts on making a new future for herself as a fashion designer.

Last Role: Schoeffling's last role was in Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken all the way back in 1991

Quintessential '80s heartthrob Michael Schoeffling retired from acting in his prime to make handcrafted furniture and owns a successful woodworking shop to this day.

6. Joe Peschi

Sample Movies: Home Alone, Lethal Weapon 2 and Goodfellas

Last Role: Love Ranch in 2010.

Known for his gritty character acting, Peschi hasn't darkened our door ways since 2010, and at 72, he's still young enough for some serious villainy!

7. Gene Hackman

Sample Movies: The French Connection, Unforgiven and The Royal Tenenbaums.

Last Role: Welcome to Mooseport in 2004.

Hackman retired from acting to concentrate on his work as a novelist.

8. Karyn Parsons

Selected Movies: Although best known for her six year stint on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Parson's also appeared in movies such as Class Act.

Last Role: 13 Moons in 2012.

Parson's turned her back on acting to start Sweet Blackberry Foundation, a non profit organization that aims to inspire children with the often untold tales of African American achievements.
