Disney has been quick to push out new, live-action adaptations of their animated classics lately, and we aren't complaining. We have already seen how successful it can be, considering the positive response to Maleficent, and Cinderella. They have certainly gotten better at making our beloved characters come to life recently, compared to the 1996 retelling of 101 Dalmatians, and 2000's 102 Dalmatians. They seem to have discovered a way to bring the magic to life, which they hadn't quite mastered back when Enchanted (2007), and Alice in Wonderland (2010) were released. We can certainly thank ABC's Once Upon a Time for restoring our generations love for Disney movies, and for feeding our hunger for a more realistic reinvention. With Beauty and the Beast already (wonderfully) cast, I thought it would be fun to do a fan casting of Aladdin, which is currently in talks for development.
For the title character, there are two very strong actors that could take on the role.
Lorenzo James Henrie (left)
Lorenzo has an impressive acting history, considering his young age, but most recently he has starred as Chris on Fear the Walking Dead, a Walking Dead spin-off series. I was instantly impressed by his characters personal strength, and it's clear that it emanates from within the actor himself. His acting skills, mixed with his strong resemblance to Aladdin, makes him a great candidate for the role.
Avan Jogia (right)
Avan won me over with his portrayal of King Tutankhamun in the TV movie Tut. Despite heavy scrutiny, and numerous bad reviews, I enjoyed the movie, and was particularly intrigued by Avan's performance. It doesn't hurt that he looks just like the animated character!
This one comes down to two woman who could play the role with ease.
Hannah Simone (left)
The New Girl star definitely looks the part of the classic Disney character, and if her role as Cece on the hit show is any indication, she is capable of bringing more to the table than just good looks.
Priyanka Chopra (right)
The striking resemblance isn't the only reason she would be great for the role of Jasmine, she has serious talent! With the success of her new show Quantico, she has been widely noticed, and it's only a matter of time before she is one of the top actresses in Hollywood.
Kalani just happens to share one of Jafar's most noticeable features, his eyes. I could mention his incredible portrayal of Squanto in National Geographic's Saints and Strangers, but his eye's really say enough.
There will never be another soul who could live up to Robin William as the Genie, but someone will have to fill his shoes eventually. My choice, without hesitation is Terry Crews. Not only is he a guy who radiates positive energy; he seems to have fun, and genuinely enjoy acting. That is the type of actor we want for the role of Genie. If you have any doubt, watch Terry in Brooklyn Nine Nine, or more importantly, let him serenade you in Blended. It also doesn't hurt that the Genie will more than likely be shirtless throughout the movie, and no one would mind that shirtless Genie being Terry Crews.
