This week has been so hard with the death of two absolutely fantastic entertainers. Alan Rickman will forever hold a place in my heart, as well in the hearts of many of us, for the profound performance he gave playing Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series.

I grew up with Harry Potter. I went to most midnight showings of the films and also to the midnight release parties for the books. Alan Rickman was amazing. He was aware of who Snape really was and he kept it a secret. Snape was a complex and fantastic character. At the end of it all, he was the bravest of all of them. His love for Lily made him overlook his hate for James, in order to protect Harry and ultimately bring an end to Voldemort.

One of my favorite scenes in all of the Harry Potter series is the one where we learn the kind of man Snape really was when Harry looks into his memories. It's so sad, but so beautiful at the same time. No one could have portrayed that scene as well as Alan Rickman did. He was the best man for the part.

I have been a fan of Alan Rickman before he played Severus Snape. I loved the movie Galaxy Quest when I was kid. He was very funny in that film and in many others. He was great at playing snarky characters. He was also great at playing the villain.

I like reading how Rickman was well liked by people as well. Several actors have spoken out about what a great guy he was. 69 years old is a young age for someone to die at. Cancer truly sucks and it kills so many of us each day.
