This has happened many times before. We see an actor dominate in film after film, becoming the bright, rising star they were meant to be.

Then suddenly, they disappear in the midst of the fame and fortune. And they become forgotten.

Once in a while we might feel a little nostalgic and remember them. We think to ourselves, "What happened?" but forget about them just as fast, as we don't really read or hear about these once-relevant stars in the news anymore.

1. Rick Moranis

One of his most memorable scenes:

Rick Moranis slowly dropped out of the spotlight to take care of his children after his wife passed away from cancer.

While he hasn't exactly been onscreen in over twenty years, the man has still been active in the industry, lending his voice in commercials, releasing comedy albums, and even voice acting in Disney's Brother Bear.

2. Bug Hall

One of his most memorable scenes:

Bug Hall also never stopped acting, but he definitely wasn't getting the star roles in any blockbuster films after appearing in such productions as The Big Green, The Stupids, Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, and Disney’s Hercules.

More recently, Hall appeared in Nikita, Criminal Minds, 90210, and even returned to the gang's neighborhood to play the Ice Cream Man in 2014's The Little Rascals Save the Day.

3. Amanda Bynes

One of her most memorable scenes:

Amanda, please!

Bynes has proven to be an incredible comedic force since she starred in her own show The Amanda Show as a child.

In 2012, Bynes first announced her wishes to quit Hollywood.

“If I don’t love something, I stop doing it. I don’t love acting anymore, so I’ve stopped doing it.”

Amanda Bynes then went on a rollercoaster of erratic behavior and DUIs. She has since been reported to be living in her own apartment and is getting along much better with her parents.

4. Jonathan Taylor Thomas

One of his most memorable scenes:

He was absolutely one of my first crushes. That crooked smile, that gorgeous head of shiny brunette hair, and that twinkle in his eye immediately made me swoon.

This Columbia University grad has appeared on such shows as Smallville, Veronica Mars, 8 Simple Rules, and Last Man Standing, which stars his former TV dad Tim Allen. He even directed a few episodes of the show back in 2013 and 2014.

5. Jennifer Grey

One of her most memorable scenes:

It is common knowledge that one thing seemed to take more notice than her incredible acting, which was her "nosejob from hell."

"I went into the operating room a celebrity and came out anonymous. It was the nose job from hell. I'll always be this once-famous actress nobody recognizes because of a nose job."

Jennifer is married to Clark Gregg who plays Agent Coulson in the Avengers installments and Agents of S.H.I.E.LlD. She has since been seen in TV shows like Red Oaks and Teen Wolf, but she isn't quite the star she was in the 80s.

6. Jack Gleeson

One of his most memorable scenes:

Jack Gleeson decided to quit acting after appearing in the popular Game of Thrones as King Joffrey Baratheon.

Much like Amanda Bynes, Gleeson explained how he had been acting from a young age and just didn't find it quite so enjoyable anymore.

I’ve been acting since age 8. I just stopped enjoying it as much as I used to. And now there’s the prospect of doing it for a living, whereas up until now it was always something I did for recreation with my friends, or in the summer for some fun. I enjoyed it. When you make a living from something, it changes your relationship with it. It’s not like I hate it, it’s just not what I want to do.

Gleeson never said he wanted a break from stage acting, however! Gleeson is currently appearing in “Bears in Space” at the Soho Theater in London.

7. Meg Ryan

One of her most memorable scenes:

Meg Ryan was once America's Sweetheart. But as she became more and more concerned about her looks, she also got sucked into the world of plastic surgery.

She's had so much work done that she doesn't look like her old self anymore. Her face looks taut, her lips at one point were too pouty, and her nose is a completely different shape. This sounds like an extreme case of Jennifer Grey's situation.

8. Grace Kelly

One of her most memorable scenes:

In 1956, Kelly quit movies to become Her Serene Highness, Princess Grace of Monaco. Her director, Alfred Hitchcock, was only able to lure her into another film in 1962's Marnie for a little bit, until she was forced to back out as France's Charles de Gaulle pressured Prince Rainier to pull his wife out of the production for fear it would make Monaco appear foolish.

Being a princess is a very busy job too, I suppose.

9. Dave Chappelle

One of her most memorable scenes:

One of his most memorable scenes:

In 2005, Dave Chappelle quit comedy to help his wife of thirteen years raise their children.

"That kind of attention wouldn't have been conducive to raising a family."

While many believed that he left due to money disputes with Comedy Central, the comedian insists that wasn't the reason. During a show in 2013 at the Oddball Festival in Hartford, CT, Chappelle's fans were disappointed to discover that he wasn't there to announce his return to comedy. Most report that he seemed to have only shown up to collect his money without leaving any material in return for the crowd to really enjoy.

We may miss them, but at least we have their imprints left in our most favorite films and TV shows.

But perhaps one day they'll make a comeback again? We can only believe.
