Disney's animated Star Wars: Rebels series takes place during the beginning stages of the Rebellion, supposedly between the happenings in Revenge of the Sith and the original 1977 Star Wars film A New Hope.
Even though this film occurs many decades later, season 2 of Rebels will connect to The Force Awakens. Just check out this exclusive teaser video from Entertainment Weekly below:
A couple of things might in fact jump out at you after watching this. For one, Ezra Bridger (voiced by Taylor Gray) the young Jedi-in-training, wields a crossguard lightsaber very similar to the one used by Kylo Ren in the new film.
The only difference? This one is green and seems to be much stronger. While it was assumed that Kylo had invented the style, this seems like that might be false.
The second half of the season will continue to show Ezra being pulled into the Dark Side of the Force. This means that Ezra might cross paths with some familiar faces from the past, including a hooded, and rather cryptic, man who refers to himself as "Old Master."
If you look closely at the markings on the face of this "Old Master," you might just recognize him instantly.
Lastly, we are wondering who that deep voice belongs to, the one that is consistently cautioning Ezra about the Dark Side. Our guess: does it possibly belong to Snoke? Or perhaps a not-so-dead Darth Maul?
Season 2 of Rebels picks up again on January 20th.
