Fans can finally have something to rejoice about regarding this upcoming Fox remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Shortly after the announcement of Adam Lambert joining the cast as Eddie, we have confirmation that RHPS legend Tim Curry has also joined the cast.
Tim Curry is known by most as playing Frank-N-Furter both in the original stage production and in the 1975 cult classic film and many have found him to be irreplaceable. Orange is the New Black star, Laverne Cox, has already been cast as Frank-N-Furter so Curry will have new shoes to fill. He will be playing the role of the criminologist (aka, the narrator), previously played by Charles Gray. This is a rather perfect role for Curry as he is wheelchair bound after suffering a massive stroke in 2013. Appearances of Curry have been a bit rare since the incident and he has resorted to mostly voice work, so it will be nice to see him in action once again.
As for Adam Lambert, the former American Idol runner-up joins the cast to fill the role of Eddie, previously played by Meatloaf. The motorcycle punk musician is a brief role, but Lambert's rock and roll glam should suit it enough to not be a total waste. In addition to American Idol, Lambert has filled the shoes of the late Freddie Mercury by touring with the remaining members of Queen as well as appearing on the Fox musical-comedy, Glee. Other credits include guest judge spots on Project Runway, American Idol, and RuPaul's Drag Race as well as appearances in off-Broadway productions such as Wicked, The Ten Commandments: The Musical, Grease, The Music Man. I'm by no means a big fan of Adam Lambert, but with a portfolio like that I am a bit confused as to why he was cast in such a small role. Personally, I think he would have been better suited for Frank-N-Furter over Laverne Cox, but I suppose that's why I don't make these decisions.
Tim Curry and Adam Lambert join the existing cast made up of Laverne Cox, Victoria Justice, Ryan McCartan, Reeve Carney, and Staz Nair. We are still awaiting casting announcements for Magenta, Columbia, and Dr. Scott.
