The Flash returns this Tuesday, January 19th as it picks up the second half of Season 2. The season and a half of The Flash we have seen thus far has been blowing expectations and making history as one of the best comic book shows of all time. It is difficult to imagine how DC could possibly top Season 1 in the back end of the season. Watch the promo below and then read the synopsis to see what will make The Flash even more amazing:
'The Reverse-Flash Returns' — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, LV) (HDTV)
HE’S BACK… — When Cisco (Carlos Valdes) gets a vibe of Eobard Thawne (guest star Matthew Letscher), Barry (Grant Gustin) and the team don’t believe it. But, after an attack at Mercury Labs, Christina McGee (guest star Amanda Pays) confirms that the Reverse Flash is back. Meanwhile, Iris (Candice Patton) and Francine (guest star Vanessa A. Williams) share a nice moment that brings Iris closer to her brother, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale). Michael Allowitz directed the episode written by Aaron Helbing & Todd Helbing (#211). Original airdate 1/26/2016.
The Reverse Flash Returns!
It is confirmed; the Reverse Flash will return in episode 11! The Reverse Flash was the main antagonist from Season 1, who may have been the best comic book villain of 2015 along with Kingpin, The Purple Man, and Ultron in my opinion. He died in the final episode when Eddie shot himself, erasing the Reverse Flash from history. So how could he return? Many fans have speculated that the Reverse Flash we are going to see is from Earth-2. Think about it for a minute, Earth-2 Harrison Wells is alive and on Earth-1 with Team Flash.
Therefore, we can throw that theory out the window. Still think it's true? We have known the Reverse Flash will return for a little while now but today, showrunner Andrew Kreisberg was interviewed by EW's spoiler column and confirmed the Reverse Flash we are set to see is not from Earth-2. Instead, the character will appear from an "earlier timeline" and it is the same Reverse Flash we knew from Season 1. Here's what he said:
“Sometimes you’ve seen events from one direction and then you start to see them from the other. This Reverse-Flash is not exactly the Reverse-Flash that we saw disintegrate at the end of the year. It’s a Reverse-Flash from an earlier timeline. It’s not the Earth-Two Reverse-Flash, it’s the Reverse-Flash. That is, hands down, one of our best episodes.”
The episode Kreisberg refers to is named 'The Reverse-Flash Returns.' This is the second episode after the mid-season finale, following the episode coming out Tuesday, 'Potential Energy', which features a new meta human with the ability to slow down time. This skill might just come in handy when Zoom shows up to kidnap Patty and Barry will have to decide whether or not to tell her he’s The Flash. Barry will most likely make the decision to tell Patty he is the Flash and then the Reverse Flash returns to town!
What Reverse Flash Are We Set to See?
Given what Kreisberg has told us, it seems to be in that context that this is the Reverse Flash from the original Season 1 timeline. Did you guys forget everything passed the episode 'Out of Time' is an alternate timeline?! Yes, the Reverse Flash is a genius; it all lines up now. When Barry Allen changed the timeline and he was talking to Harrison Wells in the episode after 'Out of Times' which was 'Rogue Time', Wells was mad that Barry changed the timeline and that consequences will follow.
This was all apart of the Reverse Flash's diabolical plan. When he sent Barry that video in the beginning of Season 2 letting his father go, he knew that he was still alive in the other timeline. The Reverse Flash has been living in our original time line and hopefully we will get to see what has happened since we left that timeline. The tidal wave most likely destroyed the city and the Reverse Flash has been hopping time lines waiting to enter the regular timeline we are in this season. This is very complicated but that's what makes the Reverse Flash an even better villain. When I first heard he was coming back, I was disappointed that the show would be lazy enough to bring back the dead but they have been planning this since 'Out of Time' and I am very excited. Will he team up with Zoom? We'll just have to wait and see!
