January 2016 is shaping up to be a time of mourning within the music and film industries. Within weeks of each other we have lost some great people; Motorhead's Lemmy, David Bowie, Dan Haggerty (Grizzly Adams), and Alan Rickman. In particular, Rickman's death has hit me harder than any other this year; I've grown up watching this man bring some amazing characters to life, but my ultimate favorites (and the ones I had an odd crush on!) were The Sheriff of Nottingham from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, and of course, Severus Snape from the Harry Potter series.
His voice brings so much more depth and personality to his characters, I can't imagine anyone else having played them instead. His role in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves is on my list of favorites; I think he was possibly the only person to bring such comedy to the character, which secretly made me root for him to win (I can't be the only person who thought this, surely?!)
And then, of course, there is Severus Snape. This role I feel has such importance because not only did he completely embody everything I perceived Snape to be like, but also an entire new generation got to experience his acting talents.
The death of Alan Rickman has hit us all pretty hard for various reasons, however with all famous men and women that we love for their talent and their characters, we find ourselves through them and our passions for film/music/books grow deeper; we may not know them personally, but that doesn't diminish the loss we feel when they part this Earth.
So, I leave you with the images I took while creating this tribute to him and one of his most beloved characters. I hope you enjoy this artwork, and that I did this wonderful man justice.
