From now until 2020 Marvel has given us a firm layout of their first three phases. But what happens next? There have been rumors and knowledge given around phase four and the following years but even Keven Fiege has said "We’re not going to talk specifically about the story of any of those films, the plot of any of those films, what happens to any of the characters in any of those films. In fact, even to talk about any of those characters – who will be involved in those movies – will be a bit of a spoiler as to what may or may not happen to them in earlier movies."
So what could be seen in the next phases?
Well, first of all we can see a future team up slowly arriving as Luke Cage ,an upcoming Marvel TV show, has already been cast and has said that Iron Fist will make an appearance in the show. Whether that's as cameos or as a permanent character, we know that the two Marvel characters are most likely to team up at some point to create The Defenders.
Blade, Blade, Blade. Oh how are we expected to see you next? Wesley Snipes, an actor known for playing Blade in the Blade trilogy, has said the following about another installment of the franchise: "It's a topic of conversation. It's inescapable. They have their agenda, we have ours, and we're both moving at an accelerated pace to create magic, we'll see if it all matches up. There's a strong possibility, but if not we have another project that's going to stand toe to toe with Blade.". So what does this mean? Well, although it is not clear what Snipes is hinting at, we can tell by his statement that the next Blade film may be the fourth installment in the trilogy. However, that is not to say that there is also a possibility that Marvel will reboot the franchise completely, as we have seen before in other Marvel films that recasting doesn't always mean getting rid of actors but sometimes recasting them too for a small role. Another possibility could be that the trilogy is adapted into the small screen, as it has not been confirmed that the next film would actually be a film.
Fantastic Four. How I envy your naive sense of wanting to become a new franchise. After the flop in 2015 the planned franchise have been taken down with even the cast doubting their return to the roles. However, despite the failure of this reboot many fans, including myself, are waiting for the next attempt. And even though the books themselves have been cancelled- perhaps because of the film's flop- there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. I have a feeling that Marvel is not ready to give up on The Fantastic Four quite yet. Even if that means getting the rights back from Fox.
After being shown in The Guardians of the Galaxy, Howard The Duck is a film that some fans have been waiting for since the last film in 1986. Although it has not been confirmed, Howard The Duck may be released within the next few years or even hinted to even more, as we all know for certain that he is in the Marvel universe... somewhere. We just have to find him and make sure the next reboot isn't a rotten egg.
Another superhero I'm sure we're all waiting for is She-hulk. Funny, relatable and easily mixed into the Marvel Universe, this superhero could be seen in the following years. Whether that's through a TV show or her very own film, I'm sure many fans would happily sit down and watch this green machine in action. Plus, seeing as the avengers are starting to wrap up and being 'recast' for The New Avengers there could be many opportunities to drop in this lovable superhero.
So that's all I have at the moment with the next Marvel films and shows. What did you think? Feel free to comment down below your thoughts and even any I haven't included here. Marvel has a lot of heroes and I'm sure there are many that haven't been touched yet, let alone planned to be converted to a film or show. However, the lineups for the next years seem promising and are sure to keep us all on our toes and ready for whatever they throw at us.
