Fans of the hit sitcom Friends have spent years chewing over the relationships of the six charming New Yorkers. The on-again, off-again saga of Ross and Rachel; the completely unexpected but strangely perfect coming together of Monica and Chandler — but one painfully obvious union never came to be... Why didn't Joey and Phoebe hook up?
Well, apparently they wanted to.
In a recent interview with People, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow, who play Joey and Phoebe, revealed that they did want the quirky duo to become friends with benefits but that the producers didn't go for it.
"Towards the end we actually pitched the idea that Joey and Phoebe had been having casual sex the entire time.
We'd go back and shoot all the historical scenes and just before a moment that everyone recognizes, there's Joey and Phoebe coming out of a broom closet together. But they were like, Nah."
It's such a disappointment that the producers decided not to explore the pitch. As natural and predictable as it may have been, it would have made much more sense than the random and cockamamie fiasco that was the Joey and Rachel train wreck.
It was wrong, so wrong.
Besides, Joey and Phoebe are literally a match made in heaven...
