Capcom is rather busy with the Resident Evil name right now. We have the upcoming multiplayer-based survival horror shooter, Umbrella Corps, multiple pending HD Remakes, and possibly the continuation of the Revelations spinoff. But aside from all of this, they've also referenced the continuation of the main series, with Resident Evil 7.
This is the last time that we heard from Capcom regarding the 7th installment, which was published on October 6th:
We're currently not at a state to talk about it," Kawata said when asked directly about Resident Evil 7 in the latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki PlayStation (via Siliconera). "But please stay tuned."
How much further along is Resident Evil 7?
Resident Evil 7 News: A Dry Spell
After the abhorrent mess that was Resident Evil 6, fans of the franchise are intrigued to see whether the recent trend of awful RE games is set to continue. Thankfully, staff at Capcom have been listening to the responses from critics and fans alike with regards to their recent failings.
"We have obviously seen the consumer response and the PR response," former Capcom marketing boss Michael Pattison told MCV.
"There was some great positives out of that, but it was a mixed bag, as we saw from the review scores. We have got to take that on-board, we can't ignore that, and we have to take that onto the next game when we make the next Resident Evil.
He added: “With Resident Evil 6 specifically, we probably put too much content in there, there were comments from consumers that said it felt bloated. The Leon missions went down very well, and because we did Resident Evil Revelations on 3DS, there was a cry out for us to focus our attention on survival horror, rather than be too many things to all people. You’ll find where we go next will likely be more targeted at our core fanbase.
What Do We Need From Resident Evil?
At least we know their heart is in the right place! Capcom have also referenced The Last of Us and how it has inspired them to embrace survival horror once more. They recognized that there was a place for games like these as opposed to the more action-centered direction they've been taking with the Resident Evil Franchise. They also referenced the original fans of the franchise and how they've started to listen to their requests for a more horror-based RE title. Look how well the Resident Evil HD REmake sold!
It's clear that fans desire a return to form, the question is whether Resident Evil 7 will mark that return. It seems we'll still have to wait. News has been slow for the title, even though some speculate that we could see Resident Evil 7 in Winter. We're not so sure. Where do you stand?
