So tonight was the premier of the DC Comics special, "DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League" on the CW.
The special was hosted by comic book writer Geoff Johns, and writer and director Kevin Smith. The two discussed the upcoming DC comic book movies, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Wonder Woman. While the special focused on these upcoming films (including clips of the casts and crews of these films), the two most talked about moments in the special is the first offical footage of Wonder Woman, and the new trailer for Suicide Squad were shown.
Suicide Squad will focus on multiple supervillains including Deadshot (played by Will Smith) and Harley Quinn (played by Margot Robbie) working for the government doing extremely dangerous black ops missions in exchange for a pardon. I'm honestly not a big fan of Suicide Squad. I like the idea of a gang of villains forced to worked together and I really liked the DC animated movie, Batman: Assault on Arkham, so I am willing to give the film a chance, but I thought the first trailer was just okay. But let's check out the new trailer.
I have to say, I really enjoyed this trailer. The tone has changed a bit from the first one. This trailer is more fun and wild. It also helps that "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen is used extremely well in it. We also get to see more of the characters in both action scenes and just interacting.
This trailer also showed a lot more of Jared Leto as the Joker. I wasn't sure of Leto as the Joker at first, but now I'm definitely sold. He's clearly doing his own version of the character that separates him from the past actors to play the character.
I also like the reference of the Joker's attire in one scene in the trailer.
Suicide Squad seems almost like Guardians of the Galaxy. It looks like a fun and entertaining film while still fitting into its franchise. Hopefully the film will be good and does fit into the DCEU. Suicide Squad comes out August 5th, 2016.
